indesit omega 1200

hi all, i have an indesit omega 1200 (wg1285w). out of the blue it just stopped spinning. i have been told i should try blowing down the tube but im unclear as to which tube i should be blowing down. can ayone help with this?

Oh crikey, you don’t need to blow into a washing machine to get it to play a tune 😆

I expect the motor won’t turn or the belt has snapped maybe? Set it to spin only and tell us what exactly happens. Better still stick it on a rinse & spin cycle and report back 😉

hi, thanks for your quick reply…. i have inspected the belts and all seem fine, tried a spin cycle yesterday and nothing at all happened apart from the pump emptying the water out, the point is the spin didnt happen; no funny noises, no start then stop….. i also did a rinse and spin but the same thing happened. the drum does turn on other cycles, its just the spin where it doesnt turn. i have been told that the pressure switch may be blocked and the machine may think there is too much water in hence the reason for it not spinning…? does that make any sense?

If your getting no motor action at all, it will be the motor, the motor’s brushes, or the PCB that controls the motor.

Looking at the model number, it could be any of them 😕

Engineer time me thinks. The brushes/module isn’t such an expensive job on this machine, though the motor would be.

And please unplug the machine first if your going to look around inside.

Hi, the motor was the first thing i thought of but the drum still turns as it should while it is on a wash cycle… its not the motor…..

If the machine is washing but not doing the final spin, then it’s probably the brushes or module.

A boilwash may temporarily disssolve any sludge formed in the pressure vessel causing the machine to think it is full of water therefore no spin.
Doyou periodically carry out 90degree washes?

yes i do, in fact the one that the spin failed on was a boil wash….. any remedy?

Goatboy has already given some of the possible remedies 😉

Carbon brushes, module or possibly the motor (it’s not unheard of for them to tumble but not spin), blocked pressure chamber….

Don’t foget to keep the power off when checking :zap:

hi all, thanks for your help so far….

this is what i have done so far….

checked motor, it works during the rest of the cycle but not spin.

dismantled the brushes, they look servicable, about 3/4 inch long, plenty of wear left in them. no cracks or shells to the edges.

dhecked the pressure switch mechanism, when i blow and suck it clicks so its working ok.

cleared out the little sludge that was in the pressure switch pipe.

this is all that i can do i think. as everything else works and there is nothing left to check, can you guys think of anything else it could be apart from the module? if the module does need changing, is there any way i can visually inspect it to tell if it is not working?

If the motor continues to idle over during the spin sequence you are looking at a module problem. If it tries to pick up speed, then falls back, the motor will be at fault. If the motor actually stops running during the spin sequence the fault lies in the timer or the water level control system. The level switch should give two (6 tag switch)or three (9 tag) distinct clicks when gently pressurised, same when pressure released.

Bear in mind that there are two different level switches and three different digital modules fitted to this machine depending on the serial number. If you wish to keep this one going, it’s time to get pro help. Without proper test equipment you risk throwing money at it and getting it wrong.

The plus side is that this is one of the better Indesits of recent years, getting a comparable replacement for similar money will prove to be difficult.
