ParticipantHi Folks
Looks like a PCB fault to me but thought I might just run this past you folks incase I missed something.
m/c only 14 months old – large door version, induction motor, hotpoint/indesit type.
symptoms – normal program – door locks up, pump comes on for about 1sec then m/c just sits there – no diagnostic fault indicate.
spin program – door locks up, drum agitates and goes into spin as normal but no pump
Changed pump incase it was thermal cut out problem but still the same. Wondered if it was somehow connected to the pressure switch reset problems you can get on these types of machine so went through a pressure switch reset routine and still the same. Suspect some sort of pump control on the board is breaking down or programming error.
Just wondered if I had missed something obvious.
Comments or solutions welcome 😉
Thanks
Mick

not had this prob but my eye was drawn to the fact the machine was only 14 months old
if you think it serious get the customer to contact the retailer quoting the sale of goods act and “not of merchantable quality” “not fit for purpose” as machine has not lasted a reasonable lenght of time
look up the act its all online and the retailer is liable because thats where the contract is in law. dont be fobbed off with a referral to the manufacturer

I think that Ken for one would be inclined to disagree with that opinion.;)

Yes Jim, that take on the legislation is wrong.
The SoGA and DSR do not take into account wear and tear which would include breakdown through mechanical or electrical failure. Which this would be.
Unless of course the customer can prove that this fault existed since they received the machine. Somehow I’m doubting that to be the case.
This is why extended warranties exist, the law does not absolve consumers of all responsibility as much as many of them these days would like to think it does.
If it were any other way and my 14 month old car broke down I could walk in and demand a new one, all my money back or a free repair. All of which is completely unreasonable and frankly preposterous at best. But we are to accept that behaviour from customers in this industry… Why?
I also know what the dealer would tell me to do.
Anyway it’s got a five year parts warranty so throw it back to Indesit to deal with and let them play parts bingo with it. At least they have the tech on them.

had one of these acting strange turned out to be a broken wire going to dryer thermistor the wire is fixed to tight on the side of the heater box

These machines are a bit like the Zanussi/Lux washer dryers with weird faults thrown up due to the dryer elements being down to earth. The thermistors do cause all sorts of strange faults on these.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Went back today just to check the points raised – everything testing out ok n couldn’t find anything with heater/NTC wiring – did do an earth leakage check first time but thought I would double check just incase – looks like PCB fault or “parts bingo” ( lol but true.)
Customer now going to pay Indesit £17 per month for the next 12 months to fix machine and guarantee it for next 12 months!!!! (thats £204 if my maths are correct) :rolls:
Thanks for the help guys.

I always carry a couple of known good old ntc’s saved from wash heater changes, takes seconds just to plug the dryer ntc plug in to check it.

Went to a large door Hotpoint this week, just had to give soap drawer a good clean. ,wanted to run a cleaning sachet through for customer, but couldn’t get it to take water in normal compartment. Had to run the self clean to get it to take water in correct right hand compartment (curved drawer). This machine was also not running pump very often with no clothes in. No other problems reported since. Just Thought it might be relevant here.
