hello, i am new here, hope someone can help. i have been told that the drier i have is one that is at risk from fire. i have had confirmation of this from indesit, and was told that they would contact me within 5 weeks to get it repaired. it is now 7 weeks, and have not heard any more from them. i have tried e-mail but keep getting the same reply to register my faul;t , and phoned but the phone keeps getting dis connected when i try. is this just a delaying tactic on their part. i am at a loss as what to try next. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi

No there is not any delaying tactics going on here. There is estimated to be somewhere in the region of 600,000 affected machines currently out there. This is a massive logistical problem they have in trying to organise resources to cope with this massive undertaking.

As an aside I registered our machine early November last and like you I have not heard anything. So patience is the key here.

In the meantime do not leave the dryer running unattended ( which you should never do with any appliance anyway) make sure you clean the filter after every use and if you have a condenser model then make sure this is also cleaned after every use.

They’ll probably want a forensic report from the Fire Service coupled with photographic evidence of the charred remains of what’s left of your house……But, seriously, it won’t catch fire if you adhere to the manufacturers cautionary advice. Including never leave your dryer unattended, unplug it from the mains if you are concerned and so on. All pretty straightforward and sensible precautions are the way forward.

You need to follow the manufacturers instructions regarding use and maintenance in order to minimise any risk.

As for the what would happen scenario you would need to take this up with your insurer if anything did happen as we can’t advise on any matter regarding insurance.

If by buying an Indesit you thought it was made in Britain you were seriously mistaken or indeed mislead at some point. 😉

I thought Hotpoint and Indesit dryers were produced in Bristol?

    According to Wiki they are

The former Hotpoint plant in Yate that makes tumble dryers, is now the only UK plant still in production.

With the emphasis on the past tense, yes. Now the Yate factory only deals in factory ‘seconds’ and ‘end of line’ products for resale to trade and public alike.
