Been away for the bank holiday, come home to find our freezer with the ‘high temp’ light lit up, and most of the contents fully defrosted. The ‘mains’ indicator is not lit up, but I am not convinced it ever has. If I move the temp control round to ‘fast freeze’, the ‘fast freeze’ indicator does light up. However, I have not heard any indication that the compressor is running.

Any thoughts on what is likely to have failed & likely repair cost (if viable)? Happy to do add further info if needed.

    Thanks.

Possible control failure which has prevented the compressor starting. If the compressor at the rear feels hot it’s possible the compressor has run for a long period and the thermal protection has shut it down. This happens if the temp inside the cavity has not cooled enough for the control to stop the compressor. If control Is bypassed the comp should run, that would indicate control fault, if compressor is seized you’ll get clicking noise from it. If system fault compressor will run but not cool unit.
