KeymasterHi
My Indesit W103 washing machine came to a stop recently witha total loss of power. Investigation showed burning to some tracks on the PCB. Being reasonably competent with electrics I functionally tested other components such as the pump, door interlock, water level switch, programme selector and checked the resistance of the thermistor (40K.)Convinced that the fault was the PCB I replaced it with a genuine spare from Merloni. Following switch on the LED on the front of the machine flashed 14 times. On the 14th flash the machine sprang into life and started to fill with water, at the same time the pump started and a few seconds latter the programme selector started to click round and round. At regular intervals the LED would give three flashes and the machine would remain in this statefor as long as it was switched on.
Does anyone know the meaning of these flashes? Is there anything else I can check? 😕
Any help wouldbe greatly appreciated.Thanks

Cliff, there is a little chip called an Eprom on your old pcb, You need to either remove it and fit it to the new one (if it is the plug in type one that is) or you should have ordered one with the pcb.

as eastlmark says it is the module not set up correctly with the right eprom. There are 2 or 3 differing ones for that model (you cross reference with the machine serial number)

Thanks for the response guys.
When I ordered the PCB I was asked for my machine serial number and was sent an identical part. This type however has the Eprom soldered directly to the board and is not removable.
Possibly, I have been sold a faulty panel. If this is he case I may have trouble getting it replaced, the girl on the phone saidWe do not accept these parts back. We get several calls saying that the panel we have supplied is faulty.
It makes you wonder doesn’t it.
Is there anywhere I can get it tested? Maybe it just hasnt been programmed. It would be nice to prove it.
Reluctantly I could buy another panel for a further £67 but I may be as well buying a new machine for £200 with 12 months warranty.March 13, 2004 at 10:55 am #10964213amp

Just a thought here for you to try. First set machine knob not onto a programme but on the black dot. Push and hold the start button for 3 seconds and release. Put in on to a rinse and spin cyle and let me know the turn of events OK?

ParticipantJust been doing a bit of checking, there appear to be four boards and seven (!) different Eprom chips. We’re not in with much of a chance, are we?

If you are a trade member of this site I would advise contacting our ‘Trade Technical Enquiries’ section with your querie, as we cannot deal directly with the general public on such an issue.

Hi
Anyone know the outcome of this problem? I have also bought a new control board for my W103 and I get the 3 flashes too. Any clue what this means?
Thanks in advance

You could try this:

Resetting the pcb/eeprom sometimes works.

Ah! Maybe that would have worked if the new control board even had an EEPROM installed!
So I unsoldered the one from the duff board, plugged it into the IC carrier and bobs yer uncle it worked! So anyone else with 3 flash errors on a new board – check for an EEPROM! The 8 pin IC near the large micro controller IC.
Well it does say on the packaging ‘NO EEPROM’ 🙄 Do they all come like that? And why would a parts dept sell that to an end user thinking it was a complete item? I shall be phoning them with a piece of my mind…
Anyway thanks for all the help, lets see how long it lasts 😉

Because they assume that you would have all the relevent service information to hand. Spare parts are always sold on the understanding that the end user has the relevent knowledge and expertise to fit the part correctly and be aware of any modifications required etc.
One of the downsides of DIY appliance repairs I’m afraid.

Hi,
I have had the same problem with my w103 and resetting the program has worked.
I now have the following problem: When the dial was just constantly clicking on, I (somewhat stupidly) tried to hold it place…. Now I need to calibrate the dial to be in the correct position.
Any ideas how I might attept this?

The “timer” will have broken internally and will need replacing. Please post full model number and serial number for your appliance – there are early and late timers fitted to this one model.
