Indesit W103UK – 8 flashes?

Hi Folks

Went to above m/c the other day – timer dial rotating + 8 flashes.. consult faults list.. 8 flashes = heater relay not operating.. check out heater and tap relay as suggested in notes.. still faulty… Order recon module from EMW and fitted yesterday.. seemed to correct fault on testing … Customer used machine once and fault back.. still flashing 8 times..

Any ideas to what might be causing this problem? Is it lack of water/ pressure switch indicating a time out when heater due on?.. water seemed to be coming in ok yesterday when I tried it.

Normally EMW put a note in with their Modules about the frailties of Merloni machines, it reads:

Wouldn’t the fault code be 4,5,or 10 if it was a pressure switch fault?..

Re reading the sheet that came with the bord it does say that worn carb brushes can cause m/c not to fill.. but would that bring up a 8 flash code?.. Always had no start up and no fault code before when brushes have worn..

What does “Heater relay cannot be activated” actually mean? Do certain canditions have to be met before it will activate eg. full of water? in which case if the m/c isn’t filling with water why isn’t it coming up with a pressure switch fault code? Or can this fault code also mean that the m/c is not filling?

Anyway.. think I might take up the suggestion of pressure switch and order one up and take it with me on Fri when I go back..

Looking at Connect Mediator looks like there are two pressure switches fitted to this model.. Anyone any idea which one I might need?..

There’s 3 listed for this beast on Partfinder at least…. 8)

Here are the 3 different model variants for you to choose:

W103UK/A = C00085193
W103UK/B = C00096880
W103UK/BG = C00094717

Take your pick…all down to the suffixed model number I guess?

P.S. I deleted your double post….no worries…there’s a lot going around just lately….(I did a spectacular quadruple post yesterday when the website went belly-up! 😳 )

Changed Pressure switch today.. Still the same works for about 10-15 seconds.. swiches off.. timer knob rotates and eight flashes..

Any other ideas anyone before I pull out any remaining hair..

Like fault said: heater relay cannot be activated First of all you have to check (like you did) heater but also for earth leakage( not less then 8MOhm when is hot) because he can give wrong information to temperature sensor (like Zanussi_Electrolux). Second thing you have to do is to change heating relay and check 220K & 180K resistors and diode from his feeds. Also I have had this error generated from temperature setting button (if it is dirty is giving wrong signal to processor). And not the last check heater wires related.

Unfortunately the cust informed me today they decided to buy new m/c so difficult to persure this any more but…

For future reference.. presumably the heater relay is on the module as presumably are the resisters and diodes you mentioned?… so changing the board should have cured that unless they are somewere else I have missed?

I did check earth res on heater altho not hot as unable to get m/c up and running but may have been that breaking down but why did’nt it work on spin when heater is cold?.. Can’t rember seeing any temp setting button on this model but could be wrong.. but I’ll keep all these suggestions in mind for next time..

Looks to me as if you have to go armed with pressure switch, heater and module and it is all a case of elemination with this type of fault… What happened to the days when you could go out and make a diagnosess and be confident that it was right?

How do the rest of you guys fair with this type of fault?
