Participanthey went to a m/c this morning and customer complained of water flooding out. had a look underneath and found problem that screw has fallen out of machine which is now just a hole for water to pore out of. the screw is directly underneath the heater. ne idea what this for and what to do now. customer can’t find screw and i’m guessing its not just an ordinary screw
Cheers

The screw is to hold the heater bracket in place IIRC.

Now, this W123 you are blessed with trying to fix? Is this the early version with the removable backplate? Or the gem with the stainless one piece drum? Or if you really struck gold, is it the latest one with the all new plastic one-piece drum ensemble? 😈
With the first one at least you can take out the backplate and refit was after all is the heater securing bollard using another conventional screw, washer and rubber seal. If it’s either of the latter two? Then bung up the hole with steel putty I would. 😉

Don’t have parts list available, sorry. If you just silicone the hole this may stop the leak but the heater won’t be supported by a bracket. You could try the machine on fast spin with a full load and see if the heater taps up or down.
(You could try a shorter heater if you cant get screw and bracket.)

its the one piece stainless steel drum. Great stuff!
when i shone a light by the heater. i couldn’t see a bracket all i could see was a hole. the heater looks quite sturdy to be honest so i think i will try the putty

The screw secures a “mushroom” to stabilise the heater. You can fiddle it all back together by removing the sump hose.
