    Hello

I have an old Indesit w123. It’s been looked after fairly well, and apart from the occasional (and fixable) glitch in the last 5 years or so, has held up very well. Now, though, I have a problem which seems to be unidentifiable through this forum and other related info sites:

    – the machine didn’t complete it’s initial programme, simply being stuck on the wash stage (with no error codes or apparent other fault).

    – in order to try to over-ride this problem, I stopped the machine; waited the minute required for the door to unlock; opened and re-closed it (just in case this had anything to do with resetting); and then turned the knob to a drain cycle point on the dial.

    – after restarting the power and a brief pause, the machine then seemed to be starting a wash cycle (or rinse at least – water coming in from the top), and at the same time began clicking through every stage of every programme continuously – basically going continuously ’round the clock’.

The red light, however, did not flash. Whereas before when I’ve had a problem, this flashing light guides me to the particular error – and so also to the solution – it is now simply staying on.

I briefly tried to check and maybe clean (if necessary) the pump filter on the front bottom right, but because the water hadn’t drained – perhaps couldn’t drain – it was difficult to keep the outflow contained enough to fully drain and properly check if there was a problem there.

Any ideas for solutions, or even for what problem it is if it’s terminal, would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks.

Did it continue to turn for several revolutions or just one full turn? If you interrupt any cycle and turn the knob to another setting the knob will then rotate a full 360 degrees right back to its original position. You have to turn the knob to one of the ‘reset’ positions and then to another setting to change.

Checking that pump filter is still the first thing to get out of the way. It can rotate constantly if the pressure switch is closed due to a drain problem.

Hi, well thanks to your suggestion I think I’ve resolved the immediate problem of the continuously turning programme dial (and hopefully the whole problem) – the machine seems to be working as normal again, now I’ve reset it. Maybe could have read the manual a bit closer first for that (!) – but thanks anyway, your prompt reply has relieved me of a lot of concern for now.

    Much obliged
