    Evening everyone.

Our 16 year old Indesit W143 has for the 1st time let us down.

When it is doing the spin cycle and gets up to the maximum spin it tries to shake itself apart.

Luckily I was in the kitchen at the time and so stopped it.

I then emptied the wash out of it, and ran an empty spin cycle and it didn’t seem that bad……………..unbalanced load I thought.

I then put in 1/2 the load (as it was still wet) and ran the spin cycle and it started playing up again…………so I stopped it.

I then put in 1/2 the load once more (after making sure it was in a different position) and it did it again……………………..

I took off the top and back off the washer and could see nothing obvious.

I then turned it on it side and shook the “front”concrete weight but it felt secure

I then noticed one of the shocks has oil on it.

    Could this be the problem?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    K

at 16 years old I would expect serious wear on the shocks so yes it could be your problem

the shocks work on the same principle as a car so, Take the top off, put your hands on top of the drum unit and push down hard and let go in quick succession. if the shock are working ok they should resist this movement. if you are able to rapidly bounce the drum thay need changing

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I removed one of the “shocks” (quite an easy job) and it is not a sealed unit like a car one, their was some resistance when I moved it but I was unsure if this was enough.

My wife is now urring on wanting to change the washing machine…………………..bet the new one doesn’t last 16 years

the new ones need some pressure to move them you certainly could not do it with 2 fingers
