This new series of Merloni rubbish is tricky until you know how. The 4 legged spider/bearing unit is held in position with no less the 8 Torx bolts. The drum pulley held on likewise BUT it is loctited on so you will need to heat the bolt first with a blowtorch for a while to loosen the adhesive effects.

Squirt a little WD40 in the 8 torz bolts also to make life easier. The Spider/bearing unit should be carefully eased toward you (try not to apply to much leverage against the thin stainless outer drum though) With a bit of gentle persuation it should come away. Take care not to lose the small ‘wedge’ that is attached to the bottom left hand arm, as that is needed to wedge it back in place.

Knocking the bearings out is the easy bit and before you reassemble put loads of high melt grease on the drum shaft and behind the water seal in the housing. (Because most models spin at very fast speeds, unless you grease well the new bearings they can squeak or squeal at high revs)

You may notice that the inner and outer drum are one whole unit and cannot be parted, so do take care and only swear in Italian OK?

    Good luck!

Re: Indesit W143 Drum Bearing Change

All this takes me back to the days when we were Merloni agents. Bearing failures where the inner race was jammed in the tub & impossible to remove. The fix was to renew the back half. That was a laugh as the tub would expand, and there was no way you could renew without the whole tub being changed.

Merloni used to tel us we were the only ones who used to find this a problem. Despite having kept some Merloni stock, we turn away all their work now. Can’t be bothered with it.

Alex, Merloni were lying to you. I worked for a Merloni agent and we replaced front and rears because of the problem with distortion.

comments apply to all manufacturers who all claim ‘you are the only one to report that fault’ whatever it is, I remember one german manufacturer who had a problem with a programme switch that i was replacing in great quantity said when questioned at the next training refresher course(for those who can remember them) ” they must have all been replaced unnecassarly even though machines did’nt work when you went in customers house and did when you left.

They also told me I was the only one compaining about model numbers on the front of the W/Machines not being a true indication and the serial number being on the rear.

The only ones that had problems with flooded bases on the DG6100 D/Washer, side strips coming off & the screws on the mod kits breaking.

The killer was supposedly we were the only ones that complained regards the rate we were “Enjoying”. They kept it at £25 for 3 years until I withdrew my service, then it went up by £2 but they removed the £2 “customer satisfaction fee.”

    The rest is history.
