I have an Indesit W161 washer which when switched on begins to fill on any cycle but after a about 20 seconds or so, the on light switches off and the washer begins to empty with the programmer dial continually clicking around.
This is usually overcome by switching the machine off straight away and waiting about 30 seconds before switching it back on again. This process can take up to 3 or 4 attempts before the washer will work as normal.
Is this a fault with the programmer and if so where can I get one from at what cost or is it a problem with something else?

You have a machine with notoriously unreliable control electronics.
The first thing you need to do is wait until the control knob starts clicking round, then count the number of times the mains neon flashes between pauses as the knob rotates. This is an error code which may give us some idea of your problem, apart from owning an Indesit that is. 😥

Thanks for your quick reply. Firstly I didn’t realise that the neon light flashed after the dial began to rotate but after checking it, it flashes eight(8) times between pauses.

Then you have got problems. 😥 8 flashes is supposed to indicate that the heater relay on the main control board cannot be energised. In practise it can be wiring, NTC, pressure switch, control board etc, etc,

Use the site search facility, enter 8 flashes and all the Indesit/Ariston ones that come up should make interesting reading.

Often a very difficult fault to clear. Please remove the mains plug if you intend to proceed yourself or click the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help.

    Jim.
