Indesit W161UK (LB2000C) controller board fault

I have a machine in for repair that has a fault on the controller board as far as I can tell.

It’s an Indesit W161UK model LB2000C

I have the service maunal, and everything checks out okay.

The machine is NOT signaling an error code.

If you select a program and turn the machine on, it locks the door and does nothing else. Clearly the processor is waiting for something, but I don’t know what.

I know the processor is working, because if you simulate a fault say by unplugging the pressure switch, it will flash out the fault code 10, and activate the drain pump.

I’m trying to find some information on the controller board to help me fix it, or alternatively find a reasonably priced replacement.

The numbers on the control board are:

and on a paper label on the plastic housing for the board:

Worn motor brushes first port of call with this fault.

If you are a bona fide domestic appliance engineer/trader then an application for trade access would be very much to your benefit. 😉

If not then you could send your board to EMW who will test/repair it for you.

I’d just found that out, that the motor brushes are shot.

Having (as a temporary measure) tweeked the holders to squeeze the last few microns out of them, the machine does at least try and start a program by starting to fill the machine.

But as soon as another relay clicks on to power the motor, nothing happens (the motor does not turn), then if flashes up error code 2 (jammed motor or words to that effect)

I think I’ve tracked that down to a blown triac on the controller board.

New brushes and triac on order, Ill see if that fixes it.

Yes I would love to be able to access the trade area and discuss this with technically able people. But I don’t quite fit the criteria.

Originally apprentice trained as an electronics designer specialising in control and instrumentation, and having spent 26 years designing, building, installing and comissioning industrial machinery, I am competent at all aspects of fault finding and repairing a whole host of electrical and electronic machinery.

I now work self employed doing all sorts from domestic white and brown goods repairs, installations, and even some design work still.

But It appears I still don’t fit the criteria to be classed as “trade”

The biggest “problem” I have is finding service information. I have the service manual for this machine, but that does not cover decent details, like the schematic of the controller board so one can easilly fault find to component level.

So it would be really good to talk to those who have access to that information, but I guess I’ll just have to struggle by on my own.

None of the manuals have board level information, even the company engineers don’t get that as a matter of course.

The company engineers and some others such as Comet engineers have access to all of the diagnostics software to allow testing and if possible reprogramming but this is not available to the independent trade, well not yet anyway. 😉

Its just possible the worn brushes took out the triac.

The parts arrived a couple of days ago, and I’ve finally had time to fit them.

New brushes and replacement for the blown triac, and the machine’s back in working order.

Just 6 months after fixing my machine, the drum decided to self destruct (the weld is separating)

So I’ve now given up on this machine and scrapped it.

So I have a complete set of spare parts for this machine for sale now, including the motor (with recent brushes) and the controller board etc.

PM me if anyone needs any parts for this machine, all in working order.
