ParticipantGot a call the other day from a disabled mate who has got an ancient Indesit Prestige 822 washing machine – the folded rubber sleeve connecting the outer casing to the drum was so old it had finally perished and perforated in various places. He’s bought a new part to replace it but was unable to bend down enough to try it himself. I’ve had a go, and managed to get the thin wire off that secures the outer part. But the inner edge of the sleeve seems securely bonded to the drum and I can’t figure out whether it’s also clipped in or just stuck! He’s got no Manual, so I can’t refer to any official instructions, hence my cry for help here. I’m trying to save him the cost of calling in a repairman, but can anyone give me an idea how this job can be done, and how easily? I don’t pretend to have much of a clue about mending machines, but if it’s reasonably uncomplicated I’ll give it a go.
Alternatively, is there a Manual available somewhere that I can download?May 30, 2007 at 11:32 am #215431*sassie*

Hi. Im not sure if it will be the same as mine, but i needed to unscrew the three screws that are in the dispenser draw which roves the control panel, and then i was able to remove the front of the machine, it is held round the drum with another wire which has a long screw on ot, unscrew till it releases, then replace with new seal
sorry if it is not the same as mine, but thought i would post incaseMay 30, 2007 at 11:38 am #215432Martin

No *sassie* the Indesit W822R is completely different. 🙁
The inner clamp ring is held on in the 12 o’clock position with a 7mm nut and bolt. Release that (through the door aperture by the way) and pull it clear. 😉
A local independent engineer could easily fit it for you of course at a very reasonable price, just click on the link below for one…

Well you certainly sorted your machine out in the end *sassie* didn’t you. 😀
But guess what? Very few machines are alike, in fact there are vast differences even with the same brands. They all have differing ways of access, different door seal fixings, fascia panel fittings…all different. 😕
So really because of the diverse nature of washing machines and their individual peculiarities I always advocate it better to make comment only when you have the answer someone is looking for. Otherwise it may lead to confusion and missunderstanding, besides which they are pretty dangerous pieces of apparatus in the hands of the novice. And we don’t want any accidents do we? 😉
