ParticipantI have an Indesit Washer / Dryer PWD8148S
Just over 1 year old and has developed a fault just after guarantee ran out.
No heat on dry cycle.
TOC is operative – it has 30ohms across it. If I remove it a Fault code appears after about 10 mins.
Fan comes on and off and I can here the fan rotating. I also see 240V across the terminals when fan on.
Wiring to heater and fan looks good. I have checked connectors.
No 240V at heating terminals at any time during drying cycle.
Condenser reservoir is not blocked.
I am now stuck. Any ideas. It sounds to me like an output triac feeding the heater has gone.
Heater terminals have about 35ohms across them.December 6, 2011 at 8:32 am #364889Martin

It’s not a TOC by the way but a thermistor (a.k.a an NTC) the resitance value of it measured in kOhms not ohms. Try replacing that first, if not the main control PCB is the next suspect. 🙁

Thanks Martin.
Do I read from your reply that this model doesn’t have a TOC?
Do you know what resistance should I expect from the NTC Thermistor when cold say at room temp 20C?
Are we talking of the same unit. The one I removed to produce the fault is the one with 2 thin blue wires at the front of the machine near to the blown air inlet to the drum.
What resistance value would I have to put across the 2 terminals to force the heater on to test whether the thermistor is at fault?December 6, 2011 at 8:05 pm #364891Martin

Yep its an NTC for sure though I dont know what the room temp reading would be but I’m guessing something around 12kohms?

Thanks Martin and Bob.
It is reading about 30 ohms so I guess the controller thinks it is too hot as it’s an NTC which fits the symptoms. So what I’ll do is temporarily wire a 47k across the terminals and see if heater comes on during the cycle.
If it does I’ll replace the thermostat.Of course I’ll switch it off immediately once I know it’s working as I don’t want it to overheat.
I’ll let you know what the outcome is.

Take a careful look at the thin blue Ntc wires where they are cable tied to the cabinet at the top. I have found a few have broken by the tie. Give then a little tug – they may well be held in place by the plastic only with all the copper conductors snapped inside.

if the wire is open circuit it gives an f13 fault code.

The wires are not snapped. If I open circuit them I get the F13 fault code after about 10 mins.
Upon removing the NTC thermistor the contacts read 19ohms so I’ll get a replacement.
I’ll let you know if this fixes it.
I’ve ordered C00083915 Indesit NTC Thermistor. Even though my model is not listed it looks like the one I need.December 16, 2011 at 4:54 pm #364897davecross

NTC Thermistor arrived yesterday. It reads 20k at room temperature as expected.
Fitted and now dryer works.
Thanks everyone for your time and effort. 😀 -
