ParticipantVisited a family with an Indesit machine. They have called out engineers 9 times (including re-visits with parts). The washer dryer has been nothing but endless troubles! First one as faulty door seal, followed by faulty dryer heater, melted front panel, dryer”s bracket snapped off, just to name a few…
Basically this time, it made a loud knocking noise and the bracket on the dryer unit was snapped. This is the second time the dryer unit has snapped off. The first time the unit created a hole in the top of the machine. The original engineer told them that they have loaded the machine unevenly which has created an imbalance, which in turn made the machine rattle and caused the dryer unit to sheer off. The client told me that she heeded the advise of the engineer the first time round and tried to ensure an even load.
I was asked for second opinion when they phoned me as they were in distress. Isn’t the machine designed to cope with uneven load, as it appears to go through three stages of spin to distribute the load failing that it would abort the spin cycle as I would have thought it’s normal. Obviously I can’t have a look at it, I am wondering if anyone out there have similar problems with the dryer unit sheering off inside the machine due to poor distribution of the load?
The family is worried that they may be left with broken machine and be refused the repair.

What a load of tosh !!
how can the customer acertain what a load will do during the cycle?
if this was such a bad problem why have indesit not done a software update to correct it. After all it is the software that decides whether to allow a load to spin or not
This is obviously bad design which the engineer tried blame on the customerDave

I agree, I would have said it was badly designed machine. Still the family is left with the machine that is worthless. I am advising them the best course of action is that push it to get it repaired then sell it and buy better machine. The repair does not cost them any money, just time.

I’m not sure were you were headed here with the above quotes? If you were asked to look at it over the phone then got there and didn’t, then I’m left wondering….Why not?
A close detailed inspection of the appliance coupled with a written report by an independent expert such as yourself would be essential toward any potential claim against Indesit your “client” may wish to pursue.
We all know that we’re talking a crap appliance here but specific detail as to its many faults wouldn’t go amiss. Add to that its service history and its actual age would go some length toward obtaining either recompense for the inconvenience a full replacement supplied or indeed a full refund.
How old is it anyway?

Officially I can’t look at it, obviously I did have a look, the dryer bracket sheered off due to vibrations by the look of it. It was very well secured. It looks as if there is metal fatigue and the drum may have flexed a bit as the outer case of the drum is metal. The client says that this was the second time it happened.
The client says the machine is under extended warranty and wanted my opinion. The machine is 3 years old. Hope this make it clearer?

it is my understanding that the retailer is liable under EU law as your contract is with them and not indesit

Indeed it does and unless the extended warranty provider asked for 3rd party intervention from you directly your involvement has no standing whatsoever.
With all the necessary facts to hand I can conclude the best advice for you to give your “client” is to bin it and buy another similar cheap heap of tack but without shelling out on extended warranty.
This ballcocks about the original retailer being resonsible for up to 6 yrs from the date of purchase is a completely unsubstantiatable in 99.99999{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases.
In fact I have to applaud the efforts of Indesit in making this tin box run for 3 yrs……and perhaps qualifies for a Guinness Book of Records surely? 😈
