    Hi and Happy new Year
I have a 3 yr old Indesit W123. The belt came off last week when spinning – I got a new one and replaced it, but the new one does the same trick. Any ideas?

    Re: Indesit washing machine Belt

And a happy New Year to you, Can you give us the full model number including any letters at the end. Is this a genuine belt or have you just got one of a similar size. The correct belt is a stretchy belt and a normal belt will keep coming off. Is the machine fairly noisy? if so the bearings may have failed which will also cause the belt to fly off.

Hi – belt was from Indesit so should have been OK. The model is a W123 UK BG. My wife thinks it used to make a louder noise when it started spinning just before belt came off, so may have been a bearings failure – is that a big problem and how would I be able to verify before getting anyone out? Oh yes, big problem……..
To check, open door, put hand into drum at 12 o’clock and lift. Check for movement relative to the door gasket. There should be none. Often you can feel the wear as the drum turns, if they are particularly worn you will certainly hear it..

BTW, worth checking the filter – the drag against the drum if the water is not clearing can throw the belt off.

Hi again – checked filter which was not too bad – bearings also seem fine, in that the drum is fairly solid and quiet. new belt also seemed OK in that it was just a wee bit tighter than the old, but still came off at the spin stage – noise not excessive or too unusual. Still puzzled…?

Check the motor mountings, on some models Indesit have used weak plastic one’s and they crack causing the motor to hang at the wrong angle 😉

    Power off beforehand please :zap:

    Hi guys,
checked motor mountings which seem to be sturdy, also made sure machine was rebalanced when trying again to spin it – am still scratching my head. are all washing machines temperamental? g

All Indesit Company washing machines are temperemental……

Something to do with cost and price engineering.

Sorry, I know it doesn’t help, but it’s sadly true. The belt on your appliance will run off for one of four reasons.

    1) The pulleys are not parallel to each other – ie; Loose drum pulley or motor not aligned properly.
    2) Poor drainage – the rush of water being extracted from the clothes effectively brakes the drum, causing the belt to jump. Especially true of machine connected to sink spigots rather than stand pipes.
    3) Wrong belt – there are two types – “J” section with 5 wide tracks or “H” section with 8 fine tracks.
    4) Poor speed control – motor banging into spin rather than easing itself up through the gears.

All really covered above, not much more we can add really.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

thanks for your help. assuming the drainage is OK and that the belt is correct, is it fixable??
