Indesit Washing Machine WI 101(UK) 8 Flashes

I have just been to the above machine with the usual problem of LED flashing and control knob continually turning.

This property was visited by Gas Elec who PAT tested the machine and socket. The socket was condemned as dangerous and tenant advised to us extension lead until socket is repaired/replace.
Since this visit the machine has not worked.
As reported by Gas Elec the insulation test results is 100mΩ. This is caused by the motor.

The error happens after about 15 seconds regardless of the program used (even drain).

According to the error codes this indicates a faulty heater relay.

Is this a common fault?
Is this a PCB change?
Can the relay be changed on the board or could it be something else causing the fault?
Could the PAT test have caused the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the PAT test had caused it, i’ve known PAT tests cause problems with all sorts of machinery and electronics over the years, WM aren’t designed to be tested, and aren’t portable so shouldn’t require it!

8 flashes is very common, and one of the hardest to cure, supposed to be relay, in reality, it can be PCB, wiring, pressure switch etc. Other than sending the board to EMW to test the only other advice I can give is to run a mile. 😥

What are you on about?

Washing Machines/Dishwasher/Friges/Ice makers etc especially have to be PA tested in commercial premises regularly. Health and safety at work and all that good stuff. 😉

And no way does PA testing cause faults on a machine that weren’t already there in the first place. Hence it would show on the Inspection report!

This is probably going to be the best option.

The property is a fair way out of the area I would usually work (isn’t it always the way). The area behind the machine is quite damp so is more likely to have caused a board fault. If I quote to replace the board I don’t think they are likely to have it repaired anyway.

I would have thought 100m ohms would be classed as well within limits!

Just going off my experience when it came to desktop CAM stuff, which, every single time (we had four portable machines), failed PAT test and never worked again.

All perfectly fine after PCB replaced, but, for some reason, a PAT test blew them!

Assumed it might be similar, but, hey ho…
