    Also true, to an extent.

But let me ask you two simple questions that will explain a lot of how the situation we’re in happened IMO….

If all freestanding washers were priced from £399.99 and upwards would people stop buying them?

But if that’s the price in Comet and down the road Currys sells one for £379.99 then where do you think the customer will buy?

Now Comet wants a machine at that price point or lower and the downward spiral begins. 😕

Exactly right! That has been the situation for 20 or 30 years now, the likes of Comet putting the pressure on manufacturers. They demand cheap, easy to shift, maximum profit goods. They realise also the fallibility of the goods they are selling by offering lucrative ‘insurance’ policies to maximise their profits even further 🙁

Costco, Tesco, Sainsburys and others are shifting ‘Brand Name’ whitegoods now with a ‘markup’ in single figures (i.e. less than 3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}) in order to get on the bandwagon. Manufacturers therefore have a hard time keeping up with the present demand. They are also looking to reducing their massive overheads by buying raw materials outside of EU control AND currently building factories (abroad) to reduce labour costs.

That is the current situation, downward spiral it indeed is, and one in which we have no say or control. The up-shot of all this will eventually be dictated by the general public, ‘voting with their feet’ and demanding better quality goods. Perhaps the latter comment being wishful thinking though 🙁
