ParticipantHi, I’m new to this site looking for a little help to repair my indesit WD12 which stopped working half way into a wash and smelt very hot.
The light flashing code pointed to dryer heater which is staying on all the time even when the machine begins it’s wash.
I removed the dryer heater cleaned the casing out and checked the dryer fan which works fine. My next step was to clean and check the module contacts which made no difference so I removed the module to find overheating around the relays. My thought was the dryer heater relay is stuck in the on position so I found another module on ebay. Although the replacement module is the same part number my machine will not work at all and the light does not flash but the dryer heater is now off. I have reset the machine with the program knob several times but nothing happens, is there another reset process or is the replacement module faulty (it was a second hand module)!
Any help would be aprecicated. TonyJune 30, 2011 at 2:47 pm #354525iadom

The electronics on these machines are just about the worst on the current market. :rolls:
Also there are two different PCB’s for WD12Uk machines, not interchangable.
Probably a duff second hand PCB.

Hi iadom, thank you for your reply – the replacement board had the same part number on it. If there are two different boards what identifies which is which ?

The part numbers on the boards are for the board manufacturers in most cases, its not used as a Hotpoint/Indesit part number and it could have come from a different model of Hotpoint machine, in which case it would have been programmed differently.
Even new Indesit boards are not made to the highest standards so a second hand one is a bit risky at the best of times.

I’ll second that, these eBay sellers of modules are just as dodgy as the old duff modules they flog to innocent punters.
I wish you luck Tony, even the genuine new modules are a caution as my colleague commented. Then there is an issue with the eeproms as well IIRC? So you need the correct one relevant to the serial number of the machine….a bl&&dy nightmare. 🙁

The relays can be easily checked with a 12v door bell battery to operate the coil. (I think it’s polarised so try it both ways.) This is only a vague indication though, as even if you get good continuity through the contacts they can still be causing problems. Only way to be (80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}) sure is to cut the top of the relay off with a Stanley knife and look at the contacts. You’ll have to change it then anyway so do it after you’ve removed it as confirmation of diagnosis.
QER advertise their module repair service on ebay. It’s annoying because when you’re looking for a s/h module you have to trawl past scores of their listings to get to a real bargain.

Many thanks for your help guys – I’m an auto technician so I understand what a nightmare the PCB’s have become. I will see if I can repair the old PCB with parts from the other board I purchased – if not it’s more land fill !
