Keymasterhi all
I have a indesit wd 12 thats about couple of years old, suddenly wont work properly.
on almost any programme ( use mostly 3 &4 )will start ,then fill, couple of quick tumbles (do seem rather fast )
THEN immediately drains and selector knob goes round and round,
it gives TWO FLASHES every now and again
checked drain, checked pipes in/out, check water level pie and chamber all clear, tried any number of “resets”
any help much appreciated
cheers

Motor problems could cause this or a failure with the Control Module, could be costly to sort 🙁

Martin thanks for such a quick reply,
is there anything I can check myself first (reasonably ok diy’r) ,perhaps brushes etc, loose connections ..
cheers

Carefully inspect the motor for anything obvious John, especially the opposite end to the belt 😉
Power off :zap: of course 😀

Hi there dave and martin,
with machine unplugged
have removed and replaced the brushes, the motor is clean, comutator undamaged all wiring looks ok
have removed and checked the control board no sign of burnt components or tracks,
checked every other connection and ran the machine again,
on RINSE fills far too full ( nearly half filled drum ) tried to tumble then went to drain and …of course rotating selector.
run it again on programme 4 filled to what i guess was normal level then after a couple of tumble ( still too fast ) went to drain…and rotating selector.
The only thing that appears common is the speed it does these first couple of tumbles it seems far too quick, so is it a motor speed issue ?maybe its just me, if I could see something broken I could choose to fix or buy another machine.but faced with a call out and parts bill ( to fix something I cant see is broken ) for nearly the same as a new one makes me very unhappy!!
so any ideas to soothe my scottish ancestral resistance to spend money would be much appreciated.
cheers

It’s clearly a motor speed control problem, although that wouldn’t explain the overfilling issue.
If you are able to test for continuity, check the coil on the opposite end of the motor, if it’s open circuit then that is where the problem lies but I suspect either the PCB is faulty or the motor winding/armature may have a short circuit somewhere.
Both of those are expensive as Martin indicated earlier, £80-£90 for the PCB (there are two, serial number required) and £110 for the motor.
It may of course be neither of those, wthout the correct test equipment diagnosis is difficult at best….

Good morning guys
Thanks for info, have removed motor to test ( machine unplugged )
I think I am testing what you recommended,
pin 1& 2 ( brushes ) closed
pin 3& 4 ( ? ) closed
pin 5&6 ( 2 reds ) open
no other combinations make circuit
Does that make it the motor?
thanks for your help
cheers

I don’t have a wiring diagram for this machine but I suspect the 2 red wires you refer to go to the Tacho Coil at the end of the motor?
If that is the case and they are open circuit? Then that is the fault and a new Motor the only option 🙁

Hi martin,
thanks for reply,
The two red are to a component on the end of the motor opposite the pulley end, and they do not make a circuit to themselves or anything else
does that identify it as “dead motor”
cheers

A Tacho Coil (on the opposite end to the pulley) should show a reading of approx 150 to 190 ohms, no reading or at least no continuity showing, then it’s got to be a faulty motor 🙁
Look closely too at the crimped connections on that motor plug as vibration often breaks the copper conductor whilst leaving the PVC sheath intact 💡

Hi Martin,
thanks for reply,
have checked wires/crimping etc all ok, all I can test is circuit and for that component there is no circuit,
so the fastest solution now is to buy new motor ( 😥 ) running out of clean socks, 😳 will let you know outcome in a few daysagain many thanks for to all in this excellent forum, saved me cost of call out 😀
cheers

are you using a multimeter set to ohms?
Simon.

Hi Simon
I was using little ohm meter , but set on circuit test and got nothing.
when on ohms I get nothing at all.
am I reading it right??
cheers
