Hi the bearings has gone on this machine.

I’ve received new set of bearings and a seal.

I can see it a pain trying to get this replaced, I have just about managed to remove the spider alloy bolt which was jammed tight!

Anyone has any tips how to go from this point to get the bearings replaced? The crosspiece (is this what it is called?) is awkward to get removed!

Hope someone will give me some instructions on this? I like to think I am fairly good at disassembling/assembling so this be a challenge for me!

    Cheers

if you take the heater box and conenser off, then undo the 8 retaining bolts for the spider, then it will come out through the back

be very careful though, the back panel is like a big razor blade!!!

thanks for that. I already got a cut so far!

Which part is the heater box and condenser? I have the counterweight on top which came off easily. It looks like a lot of stuff to remove.

As for the eight bolts, is there any best way to put the machine on? I.e. on its side on the floor? I would need more detialed description – hope you can help me out?

    Thanks again

the heater box is the big silver unit on the top of the drum ,with the fan and heater attatched.. the condenser is the white chute that runs rom th underside of the heater box to the rear of the drum

theres two spider bolts underneath there

id make a note of the wiring if i were you

thanks for that I managed to remove the spider with great difficulties!!!

Tried to tap the bearings out but the inner ring just gave way!! How do I remove the outer ring of the bearings?

The oil seal is jammed tight also!!! The other bearings is also tight.

I’ve given it WD40 2 days and every day I sprayed it in the hope it will become a bit easier but have not tried it yet.

Whats the best way of doing this?

While we’re here – when I reassemble – should the bearings slide in (assembled in spider) easily on the drum? Should I sandpaper it down as it’s currently black in colour so I guess this might be a built up of something over the years?

    Sorry for the lengthy queries!

    Cheers

How is the bronze bush on the drum shaft? chewed up or ridged?

if you meant the part that is at the ‘biggest’ in diameter on the shaft – it looks fine to me no visible damaged apart from still covered in dirt.

You don’t “tap” the old bearings out. You get a big, stout steel bar and a club hammer and wallop them out. Excessive force is approved…..

I tried that but as explained the inner ring broke away from the bearing body – meaning there is only like 1 or 2 mm of free ‘space’ where I can try to wallop it out!

I am assuming the seal is a threaded one, I am unable to unscrew it and it is starting to break up!! I do not want to damage the thread – any tips?

    Thanks to all who helped.

With some several hurdles :bang: but have managed to overcome them (I am glad I did engineering at college years ago!) and now is working fine.

It probably will fail in a few months time but it is worth the effort – the feeling of achievement!

    Cheers 😛
