ParticipantFirst sign of trouble was a blown fuse. Now the machine is misbehaving. When I set the timer it sometimes doesn’t always move on and the water keeps on filling indefinitely (whilst the drum turns) or until I move it on. Sometimes moving it on manually, the machine will continue as normal but I don’t trust it. At end of final spin the machine does not finish as usual, but the drum keeps turning indefinitely (a normal turn – no heat – not a spin – and no more water being filled thankfully). I don’t use the tumble dryer and the dryer button it set to off.
I hope somebody can give me some helpful advice…

Use the “search”function at the top of the page 🙂 You could try “indesit washer” as a start!…….when you’ve finished , in about a month’s time,
look for “which washer” and “washer-dryer”.
the basic story…..indesit = poor electronics, other brands are indesit in a different dress…beware!
Washer-dryers are a compromise = bad news. buy seperates if you have the room.
If it’s a fairly new (under 3 years old) machine, it may be worth a fixed-price repair from Indesit. but i think the concensus will be to say “cut your losses”
Note, I’m not a whitegoods engineer, don’t rely on my opinion. 😆May 7, 2009 at 9:53 am #285824jadusty

Thanks for the advice.
The machine is 10 years old or there abouts, so it has lasted quite a time; though I do remember it needed a new controller board under warrantee (but that was because I manually forced on the timer whilst on a spin.) However, maybe user error shouldn’t be a reason for the board to blow!
I will investigate the machine internals and check the board. My wife tells me that when the fuse blew, there was an acrid smell in the garage so it may well indicate something’s fried in the electronics.
I won’t be splashing out 90 quid on a new board if that is the problem, but I’m no expert so we’ll see where we’re at when I look at it this weekend.
If anybody has some good advice on a replacement then that would be appreciated. If a slightly more expensive machine pays for itself through better warrantee and more efficiency then I could be swayed…

The best possible advice is, do not buy a washer/dryer.

Quite honestly, your expectations are totally unrealistic.
Ten years ago, Indesit was pretty poor, the drums were like tissue paper and the build was definitely not designed for a long or hard life.Ten years later, you ask for a better machine for very few pounds more.
Prices have at least doubled-energy is probably quadruple.
Heck! a Dyson vacuum cleaner is dearer than the cheapest “washing machine”
I think you should be looking at ~ £400 for a reasonable machine….and even in that price band you’ll struggle to find a machine which is built for good service and is engineer-friendly.Meanwhile, back to the evil eyetie that you’ve nursed into old age. Check the wiring-loom, it’s just possible that a wire chafed through and shorted, but having owned a similar machine (for less than a fortnight! ) I don’t hold out much hope.. Pretty sure you have it right-board fault! frazzled and unrepairable (unless you have electronics design capability.)
