ParticipantI have an Indesit WDG985W Washer Dryer.
The drum has stopped turning on dry and wash cycles.
I have had a look inside and the belt is still attached and i can turn it by hand.
I suspect the motor has died as it will drain water and it still heats the drum on dry cycle its just the drum wont turn.
What are my next fault finding steps, could it be the motors brushes? I have tried to locate a repair/service manual online but have been unable to find one.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Brushes are normally situated at the 2 and8 o’clock position on the motor.

ParticipantRe: Indesit WDG985W – drum not spinning, new brushes?
Ok so i managed to get the brushes out without removing the motor.
The brush on the right is not making contact with the commutator when i turn the motor/belt, so i assume new brushes are required?

Correct, a few different motors fitted to these, you need to identify the motor first although they look like CESET motor brushes.

thanks, so not as simple as giving a model number and getting new ones, i have to know the manufacturer of the motor too? typical.
I will have a look and see if i can see any identifying marks, should be stamped or stuck on the motor yeah?
i thought brushes were brushes, could i not put any carbon brushes in the housings i have?

Not all CESET brushes are the same, the size of the terminal and also the angle of the end of the brush when viewed from above can differ. Its also better to fit complete new brushes and holders if possible due to the carbonisation inside the old holders.

ok, cheers will have a look at the motor again.
these look identical to mine, although listed as WDG985WG, i cant find any reference to my WDG985W so assume they are the same?
can you point me in the direction of a recommended parts seller?

Those in that link may well be the most common ones as sold on this very site as well but looking at the pictures yours are not the same.
Those have the long side of the brush to the left when viewed from above, yours are to the right.
You may need SV1202 or equivalent.
If you can post a picture of the terminal ends as well that might help, they are either 4.6mm or 6.3mm.

You appear to have a set of odd ball carbons, not unknown on Indesit machines.
You have the large 6.3mm terminals with the brush end angled to the right. I have gone through the Qualtex and Masterpart catalogues and cannot find that exact configuration.
It is not uncommon for us to either fit new terminal connections or reverse the new carbons in the holders. I have also filed the new brushes to the correct angle on several occasions.
The ones you linked to earlier are a little cheaper than the ones available on this site but they have the small terminals and the wrong brush angle.
CAR66 brushes have the larger terminal but the wrong angle.
I have exhausted all of the catalogues I have in my possession, perhaps someone else may come up with a suitable number tomorrow when more people will be back at work.
Does it actually have C.E.S.E.T on the motor?

Just thought I’d post to say thanks for your help. You were quite right that the brushes were a bit of an oddball variety. Went to a local spares and repairs shop and we sifted through what seemed an endless box of brushes.
Eventually we found a set with the correct spade size and with the brushes at the right angle but the cases were wrong. I just put them in the old cases, not ideal but luckily an ok fit.
Machine fired up first time and a test wash/cycle going round as I type this.
