Indesit WE14 washing machine

Drum does not spin – belt attached and motor hums. 😥
Advice as to problem and solution requested.

The precise but painful answer to your 2 questions are,…. problem “It’s an Indesit” and solution, “take it to the nearest tip”.

Very poor quality, budget machine. Sounds like a motor fault. Motor is around £88 ex vat. 😥

The Indesit Company do have a maximum repair charge in the region of £100.

Thanks for the feedback.

However, it may not be the motor as, after taking some of the (very soggy) clothing out in case the machine was overloaded, I tried the 14 minute spin cycle again.

After three minutes of pumping, the drum span relatively slowly for a couple of minutes followed by a short break and then appeared to try to engage a spin again only to get the ‘hum’ of the motor but no spinning drum.

Does this still point to a motor problem or could it be something else?

Yes.

Even if you used your boot to stuff the laundry into the drum a good motor would still be able to turn the drum perfectly, it just wouldn’t wash the clothes clean.

As has already been said the motor is suspect and to compound your problem the main circuit board could be suspect also giving the exact same symptoms. The really bad news is, likely as not BOTH are at fault? 😯

It turned out to be the motor. 🙁

I opted for the Indesit £100 charge route as I plan to move house this year so do not want to buy a replacement machine in the meantime.
