ParticipantI have a we16 that is just over 2 years old, and when it runs a spin cycle, it makes a noise which is best describable as a “fast knocking noise”. It only does it on the faster spins (800 rpm plus approx) and gets worse with speed and increased load.
I initially thought it was the bearings. With the motor belt removed, there is no discernible sideways movement in the inner drum, and the bearing sounds fine – no grinding at all when spun by hand. I then thought the inner drum may be hitting something – it may have been clipping the heater element, so I removed this (and the “cotton reel” element holder) and ran the spin – no difference.
Spinning the drum by hand, and shining a torch into the hole where the element should be, I can see that the inner drum appears distorted by approx 5/10mm in places.
Whilst stripping the machine down, I discovered a pair of nail scissors in the drum drian pipe to the pump! They have various rub/scrape marks on them, and look like they have been bashed about a bit! Could these have buckled the inner drum? Also, is it possible to split the inner and outer drum – it looks like the outer backplate is “crimped” to the drum assembly. Anyone know how much a new drum assembly is?
I’m never buying another Indesit! Thanks in advance!

The drums cannot be split on these as it’s a sealed unit, if its we16 then its part of the evolouton range which carries 5 year free parts.
So for around £90 indesit will repair it for you

Thanks for the prompt response clyde!
Do you reckon Indesit will supply just the part? As I have today removed, completely stripped, and rebuilt the existing drum, I am confident I could replace it myself …
Oh – and none of the documentation I have mentions a 5 year parts guarantee… ? I have found the “Genuine Indesit Spare Parts and Accessories” number (0870 5585850), but can find nothing else on the subject.

Parts are only free if fitted by an indesit engineer, it will be cheaper to get indesit to fit it than pay for the part yourself!

Ps the 5 year parts only applies to the evoloution rangeFebruary 23, 2005 at 9:08 pm #126933admin

You say you are never buying Indesit again, but most machines today would react the same way if you try to wash scissors in them! 😕
Have you tried having a word with your home insurance company as this would be classed as accidental damage and they should pay for the repair.February 23, 2005 at 9:41 pm #126934Dave_Conway

I think you may find even calling Indesit to fit the parts may well end up in you having to pay for the drum which has clearly been damaged by a foreign object which shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Customer misuse as this would be regarded is not covered under any sort of warranty normally, best bet is try your house insurance as suggested.
