ParticipantHi
In our home lives an Indesit WG1033TPG washer.
As you experts will know, its a two knob job,,nice and simple.
Now a few months ago we suffered a spate of RCD trippages and i took the view that it could be a water leak on the washer.
I whipped it out, tipped it up and noted a slight drip on the drum backseal which when the machine is vertical, conveniently drips onto the pump power connector block..voila !
There was also a little muddy puddle on the tiled floor.
So what to do,,well my first trick was to tighten the big circlip a bit. It seemed a little slack. I also whipped the pump connector off and cable tied it out of the way so that it didnt get dripped on. Problem solved.
Today i noted it was still dripping on the floor. My partner is not one for fixing stuff like the rest of us and is bending my ear about a new washer.
I note that a new backseal for this machine is under a tenner.
I also note that the sticky component labels under the lid suggest that this machine was made/purchased in 2000 so 14 years of trouble free service..not bad considering its low purchase cost.
I will say that there are only two adults in the house so it has performed far less work and far fewer cycles than a standard family washer.
I have read all about the great washer ripoff and my view is that i dont agree people are being ripped off. If people see lots of washers in the £200-£400 price bracket in the shops, they just assume that that is how much washers cost and so they pay it. Its just like cans of soup at 80p. Most of them cost around that price so the punters assume that all soup is the same and costs about the same.
So what do you chaps think? Is the new backseal an easy fix or could there be drum distortion/other issues that will prevent a good fix?Bearing in mind the low useage and low duty cycle,(therefore potential extended longevity !)what make/model might i look for for a budget (but not too budgety) replacement ?
Thanks all
PS i note that almost all new washers are cold fill. I am guessing this is to save money on two control trains instead of one !
It seems like folly to use gas to heat water but then fill a washer with cold water and heat it electrically when it could have been filled with hot water.
I wonder what issues might be caused by simply connecting it to the hot supply?

Replacing that seal is an easy task. A simple ‘barrel clamp’ holds it in position and over those many years the rubber seal perishes and shrinks as a result.
As regards using hot fill on cold fill modern machines the answer a catagoric NO! Your old machine is several generations behind the times which in essence is not a bad thing. But if ever you are forced into buying a new machine there are TWO things you need to know… 1) They are all cold fill unless you stump up over a grand for one. (Folks that do have more money than sense) 2) Never ever buy an Indesit as that spells Italian for crap. (A trade expression for total rubbish)
HTH? 😀

If indesit/HOTPOINT where given away with my cereal then I’d change what I had for breakfast 🙂
