ParticipantWe have an Indesit WG1130T that has given us good service for a lot of years now.
In that time it’s been faultless but over the past 6 months it’s occasionally causing the main house RCD to trip. The first few times it happened I just tripped the electrics back on and it all worked for a month or so but now a couple of seconds after I turn it on it trips the power out.
I’ve had the machine apart and had a look about for anything obvious and it appears that if I disconnect the blue power wire from the heater element the machine works perfectly.
This is similar to other posts on here such as http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ht=wg1130t
I’ve put a meter across the element and with all wires disconnected it measured about 28ohms which seems about right.
Is it likely to be the heater element causing the problem or perhaps something like the mains suppressor which I presume supplies the heater?
Alternatively should I be looking at other items or is it time to just replace the whole unit?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

You need to check the heater for insulation faults not resistance/continuity.

What’s the best way to do this? I tried measuring resistance between the connectors and earth but I didn’t find anything using my digital meter but it is only a cheap basic thing.

Buy a decent multimeter or meggar or get someone who has one to test it.
A cheaper option would be to just change the heating element. 😉

Thanks for the info. As you say it’s probably easiest and cheapest to just try another element so I think I’ll try that, they look to be about £40.
Thanks for the help and advice and I’ll report back if it works.
