ParticipantIndesit WI101 13 months old (just out of warranty!!!) Washes fine but when it goes into spin cycle there’s a terrible knocking which as the spin gets faster, turns into a deafening noise and the vibration rattles the kichen till the pans fall of the shelves.
I’ve ran the machine with half a load in still does it, I’ve run the spin cycle with the machine empty and it does it, but nowhere near as violently.
At first I thought it might be the drum or one of the weights hitting the outer casing, but I did a wash with the back and top off the machine and it wasn’t that.
Any ideas? Is it repairable? I know its going to cost me but is it worth just getting a new machine?Any help will be greatfully recieved. Cheers.

My initial thoughts are that the inner drum shaft may have failed and/or the drum bearings have (or both). If you can feel and lateral play coming from the inner drum (up and down movement of the shaft) then that’s your problem 🙁
The cost to repair this is prohibitive and therefore uneconomical for the most part. However, if it really is just 13 months old I would suggest you contact Indesit directly and ask that they advise? Because for such a major breakdown at just 13mths has to be regarded legally as unreasonable service life and worthy of a major financial compromise by Indesit towards getting it repaired or indeed replaced ❗

Hi Martin,
I’ve just had a look and I cant really feel any movment at all. I opened the door held the outer drum (white plastic) behind the door seal and tried to move the inner drum. There seems to be no noticable movment.
When not holding the outer drum and moving the inner, the whole thing seems to be well balanced on the spings and shocks, the drum turns freely and theres no evidence of it catching no anything.
If there was lateral movment would it be obvious or are we talking fractional?
Cheers.

KeymasterFractional movement in the drum is enough to produce quite a racket.
Could also be a loose or broken counterweight.

It is most likely loose bal weights seen a good few with loose top and bottom weights if you catch them early usualy a nip up and they are good as new.

Evenin’ Johnny,
These balance weights can I get to them to see if they are the problem or do I need to call the man?December 17, 2005 at 6:48 pm #158177Penguin45

Power off, lid off – weight on the top.

Plus another weight at the front of the tub (below the porthole) held on with 3 bolts 😉

Morin’ all,
The balance weight at the front, how do I get access to it.
Does the door hinge have to be unbolted and then the door seal removed to allow the front off the machine?December 18, 2005 at 10:56 am #158181nannynick

I have an Indesit WG1034T washing machine with a very similar problem (so hope you don’t mind me jumping on your thread Uncle Fester) . It is making a very loud banging noise when the spin cycle starts. I have also noticed that the front of the machine buldges outwards at times! Once the spin is up to full speed, there is no more bang.
Given the buldging and that the drum does seem to be quite loose (though I’m no expert in these things)… is that more likely to be the inner drum shaft (thus expensive)? My machine is a good few years old, so if very costly to repair, a new machine may be cheaper.

NN – you’ve almost certainly got a weight broken away. If you can get the rest of the model number from the label rather than the control panel, we should be able to give you a price for a replacement. There was a modification on certain 1034s IIRC.
Access to check – slip the front of the door seal off the casing and double it back inside to allow you to see in. Leaning the machine back at a good angle will cause the drum to move back giving more room.
UF – just a thought with yours – the lower mounting points for the suspension struts work loose/break away and can cause a noise not unlike a machine gun. Might be worth checking when you’ve got it tipped back.
Power off of course, please gents.

Evenin all,
After last post went off to check front balance weight and mounting points. Well viewed from the back the mounting points look fine but the bal weight I cant get to to check, the door seal does not want to come away from the casing, is there some fastener somewhere holding this tight to the casing?
Or am I not going about getting access to the front of the machine in the wrong way?
Any help will be greatfully recieved. Cheers.December 19, 2005 at 7:30 pm #158185Penguin45

There’s a retaining band in the lip of the seal that needs to come off first………
