ParticipantI’m currently experiencing problems with my Indesit WI121 Washing Machine.
When a program is selected it runs fine for the duration of the wash cycle but then stops, just making an occasional spin. The dial does not move off the number of the program it started on.
The program can be reset by moving the dial to the ‘end program’ mark and then the rinse, drain and dry programs can be selected (these appear to work OK).
Perhaps more importantly it appears that the water is not heating properly as the clothes are icy cold when the water is drained out.
When a problem first manifested itself the dial kept moving round every few seconds and not stopping though this no longer occurs.
Any ideas?
Thanks

there is an inline fuse on the dryer, if this fails then the machine will still go through the cycle, but not dry.
try setting machine on dry cycle , with the door open use a key or screw driver etc (anything metal} to push the door catch into the on position… push it to the right
the machine should then operate the dry cycle, if it blows air but not hot, the fuse needs replacing

Perhaps he should try sticking his hand up the air duct as well just to check!!!!!

Who said anything about the tumble dryer not working? The machine in question is a washing machine and NOT a washer/dryer! Sticking a screwdriver or your hand up the dryer duct? What’s all that about guys?….Behave, and read the plot here, please. 😉
Bernie,
When your machine plays up does the door lock light flash rapidly? If so count the rapid flashes between the longer pause…OK?

Thanks Martin,
When the cycle becomes ‘stuck’ the light doesn’t flash.
I’ve left the machine running for a couple of hours before to see if anything would happen but it just stays on the wash cycle.
I’ve not noticed the light flashing abnormally at other times either.

That’s a bit odd then? I wonder if during the wash cycle it actually heats the water? Maybe the heater isn’t working? 😕

That’s what I was wondering. Is there any way of checking/diagnosing any problems with the heater?

Yes of course, it involves turning the power off taking the back off and testing with a multimeter and/or insulation tester. But that really is a job for a “qualified electrician” and if you are in the least bit doubtful of your skills? Then best use the link below for a local approved engineer to take a look for you. 😉

We checked again today and when the dial is manually moved to the end program line the LED flashes twice rapidly before the normal end program flashes.
There are definitely no flashes when the cycle is stuck though.

The machine wont necessarily show a fault condition if the heater is open circuit i think you have got a heater problem but as Martin says best get someone in if you are unsure.

Last chance at diagnosing the problem I think!
The machine is definitely not taking any water from the hot fill. I’ve had a look in the machine and the valve at the pipe entrance is humming but it doesn’t appear to be opening.
If I turn the cold fill tap no water goes into the machine and the cycle doesn’t start.
It seems odd that the water isn’t being heated and no water is coming in from the hot fill. Perhaps a problem with the thermostat?
