ParticipantHello,
Whist washing some really dirty tea towels at 90c today, the machine (Indesit WIDL 126, Washer/Dryer) started to emit lots of steam and had a burning smell. I immediately switched it off from the wall, and eventually the door unlocked, I assume there wasn’t a lot of water in the drum when I did this.
I am going to phone Merloni up tomorrow, as its only 6 months old. Anyone any idea whats happened? Sounds like it couldn’t handle 90c, although I’ve done this a few times before.
The tea towels that came out of the machine stunk of what could be described as the stains that were on them (grease, tea etc. ) and were dripping wet (surprisingly).
Also, is it reasonable for the machine to last, if its used at least once a day, its in a large shared house.

Dan,
Sorry we cannot determine whats gone wrong even from the information you have given us 🙁 We could speculate the many likely causes but there is little point as Indesit will fix it for you under the terms of the warranty 🙂

Hi,
I work for Indesit company.
Had a few widl126 where the door seal lip flips to the other side of the inner drum lip and gives the symptom you descibe. We all carry that seal as vanstock now and its a 2 second job to change (no tools req’d). If it this, its only coincidence its gone on a hot wash. If it had over heated (v. rare) you would have got a fault code.Steve

Repair man came round this morning.
The control/circuit board at the back had blown. He ordered a new one, should be here in a few days.
There was also a small strip of wood inside, across the top of it just under the top cover . The repair man had never seen one before.
