Hi guys, thank you so much for you help and advice on the carbon brush issue. I purchased one, it arrived and managed to install it. Tested the washing machine and all was well.

Just 2 days later, the washing machine has started to do something new, whilst I was at work, my wife noticed yesterday that when starting a normal cycle it would fill up with water….almost to the top and start making a funny sound as though the engine was struggling to turn. So she quickly turned it off before it caused any damage. That evening I drained all the water out from the side of the house. Tried it again, and it started to fill up again. As though the water pump had no idea as to when to stop and just stops when the drum is like 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} full.

There are no lights flashing on the machine and the top 2HR light is on along with the red door lock light. This is the second weekend in a row I’ve had problems.

Could you guys please help? I am seriously ready to never go near an Indesit washing machine again 😡 Any ideas on a good manufacturer?? 🙁

    Look forward to some advice.

is this the machine you took picture of , lay on its side?

if so, its worth checking the hose from the pressure switch to the sump hose, it could well have got water in it, and / or airlocked

Hi there, yes, it was me who submitted that photo.

I turned the washing machine over this evening, and having looked at the pump, everything seemed tightly in place and couldn’t even undo the pump as it has this metal wire around it. I turned it back on when it was upright again and the water kept gushing in ( the water pipe was also replaced ) and filling the drum…the washer at this stage started to make a loudish clicking sound which was some water being expelled slowly to the drain after 2 mins it would stop.

At that point all I can hear is this hissing sound. Like the kind of sound the old kettles used to make before it would start whistling. This sound was coming from the bottom of the washing machine and if I turned the washing machine off, the sound would stop too.

Would you know what this could be? 🙁

It sounds like, for whatever reason, the machine is not detecting the fill-level.
drain and UNPLUG the machine first.
As Helo has said, find the pressure-switch….usually round, about the size of a tin of shoe-polish, terminals on one side (may not all have wires on them) and a rubber or plastic pipe (similar to car windscreen-washer pipe) disappearing to the lower part of the machine.

when the machine’s empty, disconnect the pipe from the switch and blow down it…..it should be fairly easy and “may” make bubbling noises. do NOT blow into the switch, they’re very delicate as they need to detect a couple of inches of water-pressure.

if the pipe is clear, refit it….check all electrical connections are firm.

if all ok but problem still exists, it is either a faulty pressure -switch (unlikely) or the main circuit -board is faulty….(highly likely , given their poor build-quality)

hi, thank you so much for detailed advice, I will try that 1st thing in the morning. From the link below, is the pressure switch the little unit which is on the bottom right hand side of the photo?

I just took a photo of the bottom of the washing machine and have found something odd….where the arrow is pointing, there appears to be a loose object inside the rubber housing…about the size of a tennis ball and hard…is that normal???? I can feel it if I squeeze the rubber…

There is a classic fault on these machines. Switch it it on – fine. Select a programme – fine. Press “start” and it will instatntly start filling and it won’t stop. This is a triac failure on the computer board.

Helo and Steve have both given you good advice, this is just the nasty bit (it’s what moderators do 😕 ) on the end.

PCB failure is expensive and sees the end of many budget appliances.

it is worth poijting out, that for some reason on the pic, over the sump hose, theres some sort of white residue, which looks suspiciously like its been leaking

it would concern me, but if im honest, as penguin says ( and iadom did point this out to you) , if you run the machine with faulty carbon brushes, it can cause premature pcb failure

    Ha! I’ve now tracked-down” the picture ” 😛

having been mesmerised by the sheer quality (i didn’t say “high” 😈 ) of the motor and damper -mountings, my observations. :-

Yes, the sump-hose is the big-one with the cheap, nasty wire clamp that’s had leakage dribbling down it. (wd40 and nip it up….not too tight, or it will cut the quality rubber)
the thin black hose moulded into the side of it, will ultimately go to the pressure -switch…..with luck, you may be able to get to it by removing the cabinet lid.

if you can’t get in to blow down the pipe, an empty washing-up liquid-bottle makes a good “puffer”

If the board has “gone”, as P45 has stated, it MIGHT be worthwhile finding an independent radio/tv repairer, show him P45’s comments and he MAY be able to replace the duff component (s) considerably cheaper than a new ,quality genuine “made down to a price” board.

Likely, the hardest part would be to accurately identify the actual component and source it, or a “beefier” substitute.

Our feather friend is spot on yet again here. I’m with him on this and no mistake 😉

But I must add that I’ve found this thread highly amusing at the different takes over a simple photograph and what it has indicated to them – unbelievable. :rolls:

Cockney’s take on the sump hose was worth putting into verse. (I wonder if he studies astrology on the side?) 😀 He certainly has a way with words. Keep it up Steve, you’re a star!
