ParticipantI’ve had a problem with the dryer stopping with an error code (various flashing lights). After reading posts on this forum I found an answer for the problem which was to change the heat sensor on the dryer box. That did the trick for a week or so but the problem returned but not for every use. The dryer now doesn’t dry the clothes at all. After investigation I found what I believe to be the “dryer box thermal cutout” is faulty. It is open circuit. I’ve bypassed it to make sure and had 240v across the dryer element and the heater box heated up.
Also I removed the clear plastic section from the back of the drum to the heater box because it was full of fluff. I’ve cleaned this out (and the fan).
Is this likely to be the main cause of my problem? Am I right in thinking that this blockage has restricted the supply of air to the dryer box? If I change the Thermal Cutout will am I likely to have any more troubles or should it be ok?
Sorry for the essay. Thanks

Participantid think youve probably nailed it with cleaning out the condenser
but
please dont live test, or bypass things, it isnt safe
and
make sure you replace the thermal cut out, bont leave it bypassed
good luck

Thanks for the advice. I’m used to testing live as I’m an electrician. I only bypassed it to confirm that it wasn’t working I have’nt left it like that. The plastic piece from the back of the drum to the heater box is the condensor? How does it work exactly? I ask because when I took it out the fluff had built up at the top (from the water inlet up). I assume that when the dryer cycle starts it washes down the bottom section with a burst of water. Does the metal grid at the bottom stop fluff coming up from the drum or down from the heater box?
Thanks for the prompt reply!

Participantit is the condenser
its designed to be kept cool by the supply of water
as the clothes get hot, they steam, and the steam then condenses in the condenser, and then runs into the pump and pumps away!!
lack of airflow commonly causes the problem you have
and the fact that theyre rubbish, but thats another story!!
good luck

Thanks for the explanation. Washer/dryers rubbish or indesit rubbish? Am I likely to have less problems if I bought a seperate dryer? I bought a temp sensor initially (£15) and now I need to spend £11+p&p. I don’t want to keep spending on it if its crap. Maybe just keep it as washing machine and put a new dryer in garage. What dryers would you recomend?
