I obtained this machine from the previous tenant when I moved into my rental property. Previously I had a £200 Beko (model number not known) which had to be left at my previous address and was, IMO, a much better machine.

I do know (now) that Indesit are cheaply made low quality unreliable machines, and I wish I’d been able to keep the Beko.

The Indesit seems to use the minimum amount of water on the main wash cycles (1, 2 and 3), with no visible water in the drum and the clothes being just agitated in their own wetness. This also seems to extend to the rinse cycles, resulting in the fabric (especially cottons like jeans and towels) feeling a bit stiff and rough when dry (I dry outside, I don’t use the drier in the machine). I assume this is so they can get better energy efficiency ratings.

I have found that one of the “time for you” cycles, number 10 (delicates, 40C) seems to use considerably more water, with quite a lot visible in the drum and the clothes being properly agitated in the water on both wash and rinse cycles. Using that with the extra rinse option seems to be a more viable option do get reasonable results.

Does anyone know which other programs on these machines use the higher fill level, or have any ideas how to get the best from it? Other than dumping it and buying a decent machine! 🙂

Also the machine seems to be fairly useless with non-bio powder, though I’ve only tried that on the cycles that use hardly any water so far. I’m curious whether the brand of bio powder really makes much difference (currently sing Morrison’s own brand colour bio), but I’m sure that must have been discussed here numerous times before! This has just become more of an issue because a friend has moved in with me who needs to use non-bio (Surecare) due to a skin condition.

    Thanks!

One for the geeks to answer in full for you Paul. But in summary, that’s how modern machines wash, that’s pretty much the norm. Drying outdoors will end up stiff as a board and finally cheap detergent (i.e Morrison’s own) is just that…..cheap …but for a more geeky explanation…….pls wait! 😉

    Re: Indesit WIDXL126 Fill Levels

imo beko and indesit are currently the same level of tat
as for was fill levels are your clothes actually clean as the more modern machines do use less water as they do not come out any cleaner with more water as for the powder it is well known that main brands are generally better but i would not put my name to any particualr brand…someone on here will have a bettter answer for you there
as for drying stiff i cant see that being anything to do with the machine’s low water level but you are right they do do lower water for the efficiency and across the board this is so

it is supply and demand people want a cheaper machine that costs less to run end result indesit appliances

i hear ise do a good machine 😀

I think a lot of the problem is inadequate rinsing, which is perhaps a point I didn’t make clearly.

On the non-delicate programs it uses as little rinse water as washing water, which can’t be enough to adequately rinse the clothes.

Have you tried running it without clothes in so you can see how much water is being used? You should have about 2 inches in the bottom of the drum, you can’t see this with clothes in but should be enough to rinse, to an extent.

Once the machine has filled set it to spin and watch the drain speed – if the machine should empty in about 20-30secs. If it’s draining slowly, then it could be leaving dirty wash water in throughout the wash, which would explain the poor rinse. If it is draining slowly check filter/sink spigot (if not standpipe/drain hose/sump hose for blockages, in that order.
