    Hello,

Just did a quick search for my model number and couldn’t find anything posted about this washing machine, so I hope i’m ok to start a new thread…

I’ve had an Indesit WIE127UK for (near enough exactly) 13 months. Yesterday when at full spin-speed it got really, really, really loud. So loud i wanted to pull the plug – i thought it was about to explode.

I can’t say there’s any knocking noises, or whines or anything unusual – it’s just got extremely loud!

I phoned Indesit (incidentally, they have been out to it before – but not for this issue. when it was about 6months old it stopped spinning at all. I think the belt had come off.) and was told that they wouldn’t look at it for free as it was out of warranty. I couldn’t believe it. Approximately 30 days out of warranty and it’s no longer their problem. Unbelieveable. Was told it’s £70 for the call-out plus upto maximum £150 for parts. £220… That’s all the stupid thing cost in the first place!

Anyway, any idea on what’s suddenly happened to cause this spectacular volume??

    All input gladly received.

    Thanks!

2 possiblilties, either the main bearings have gone or there is a coin or other foreign body caught between the 2 drums. Both are bad news 🙁

(With the belt off, is the drum noisy when you turn it by hand I wonder)

    Power off before investigating :zap:

    Noises are caused by:

Drum bearing failure – dull rumble getting louder with speed.
Concrete weights breaking away – thudding and banging noises.
Heater off bracket – noise akin to a machine gun as speed increases.
Drum support failure – clatterings, bangings and scraping noises.
Suspension leg ripped off chassis – drum banging in casing due to excessive movement.
Coins and other foreign objects in drum or pump.
Drum pulley loose (unlikely) – thrumming and clonks.

    Take your pick……………..

    Power off when investigating.

There are multiple comments on The Indesit Company’s attitude to service and warranty issues throughout the Public Forums.

All right clever clogs, you get all the noises recorded and we’ll see if Admin will open a sounds library for people to choose from………. 😆

Thanks to all those who’ve replied.

First off, thank you johnnyj for correcting the the costs charged by Indesit… (BTW, do you happen to know if they’ve been working this week? After my first call on Tues(?) i’ve been unable to get through since. Nor have i had a reply to my email.)

As for the sound it the machine is making… well, i do actually have it recorded on my mobile! (The missus wouldn’t believe me when i told her it was REALLY loud) I can get this sound onto the computer if you want it!? 😀

I’d say it sounds like the ‘dull rumble’ that gets louder, but the machine is also vibrating/moving more than it used to – so i suppose it could be the concrete ballast or something? I guess i need to open it up.

    With regards the possibilities…

Drum bearing failure – dull rumble getting louder with speed.
Concrete weights breaking away – thudding and banging noises.
Heater off bracket – noise akin to a machine gun as speed increases.
Drum support failure – clatterings, bangings and scraping noises.
Suspension leg ripped off chassis – drum banging in casing due to excessive movement.
Coins and other foreign objects in drum or pump.
Drum pulley loose (unlikely) – thrumming and clonks

…should any of these things be happening after only 13months of usage?? I.e. would i have a leg to stand on in the small claims court, if it came to that?

The machine has been used quite a lot, but as there’s only two of us in the house i doubt it’s had the sort of usage it would have had in a family household.

Once again, thank you for the suggestions.

    Morin,
Just thought I mention I’ve had trouble with a very noisy Indesit machine, dont know if its any help but the guys here got me to check that all the balance weights were secured properly. I found that the front weight under the port hole was loose and after being tightened, No more noise.
If you check out my thread on the forum it may be of some help, it certainly saved me a wod of cash.
    Good luck.

Re: Indesit WIE127UK – Just got very NOISY!

    Firstly, Happy New Year everyone!

    With regards the washer…

Thank you for all the suggestions – upon opening up the machine, the problem was blindingly obvious. The concrete block on the top of the drum had about half an inch of play! Tightened up those 3 nuts and all is (reasonably) quiet again.

Unfortunately, after only 2 washes the drum stopped spinning… now, as i said in my original post, we have had this problem before when the machine was about 6 months old. The technician came out and took about 5 minutes to sort it.

Anyway, I opened up the tub again and saw the belt had come off. Checked it for splits (etc) but it looked fine. Put it back on and it feels quite tight – no slackness. But now when the machine is on and running there is a, well, squeak every so often. I guess it’s the belt slipping or something – it happens most often (and loudest) when the drum has water in and is trying to lift the wet clothes up from standing.

I have been told that on some washers you can alter the motor’s mounting to effectively tighten the belt… but on my Indesit the motor’s mount points seem fixed – no where to move them.

    Any thoughts on this?

Do i just need a new belt?

    (original/current belt is “MEGADYNE P/ EL 1061 H8”)

    Thanks again.

A new belt is the answer. These belts are ‘stretchy’ belts so there is no means of adjusting the tension. Part No: is C00082812 a quick e mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should do the trick. The new belt will be very tight to refit.

Is that an Indesit part number?

And what sort of cost are we talking?

That is the genuine part number, around £7.00 plus postage, vat etc.
worth mentioning that the genuine belt or a suitable alternative is electrically conductive to disperse static charges that build up in the drum/bearings.

Re: Indesit WIE127UK – Just got very NOISY!

    Folks,

I put the original belt back on the machine and it stayed on… until yesterday.

That’s 2 months it stayed on for, and then it decides to fall off all of a sudden.

Will a new belt sort this problem, or is there something that causes the the belts to work loose?

    Cheers,
    MW.

The drive belt is elasticated, so should be self tensioning – they do stretch over time as you know from the first one. Overloading the machine can cause premature stretching; drum bearing wear or loose pulley can cause the belt to run off through misalignment.
