ParticipantHi folks
Went to this today and motor struggling to turn – I would normally dignose this as a motor problem ( typical turns with no load but sits there and hums at you loaded) but normally I would expect this to hunt on spin but once it is spinning sounds fine..
Checked for earth faults and brush wear but the way it sounds it is making me suspect this might be a module problem not giving the motor enough humph (technical term :)) to turn…
Just wondered if any of you folks out there have come across this problem on these machines..
BTW had the module off to check if any signs of dry connections or loose connections but all seems fine..
Thanks
Mick

Was that spinning fine with or without load?
I would suspect a faulty armature, think of all those faulty hpt armatures you must have changed over the years with exact same symptoms. (When you could still get armatures!)

You can still get armatures, Qualtex ARM 20, for the old Hotpoint machines.
In fact the last I heard Hotpoint/Indesit were using ARM20’s themselves along with those awful top loader pattern pumps with the plastic pulley and leaking seam. :rolls:

Not for a WIL163UK, Jim…. 🙂
I’ve written a few off this year for motor problems – the armature seems to lose the starting torque.

Thanks for the replies folks..
My feelings were that is was armature.. (yes because of all those old hotpoint armature probs) but with advent of all the crap modules indesit are turning out these days just wondered if it could have been the module..
You are right Penguin the motor does seem as if it has lost it’s starting torque but once it is up and running eg. spin it seems ok..
Looks like it might be new motor quote then..
Will conferm this if I get the job????
Thanks again
Mick

I was referring directly to the section of Neils post about Hotpoint armatures and in particular his (when you could still get armatures) quote. 😛 😆
