ParticipantHello everyone,
I have an Indesit IWME127 integrated washing machine that’s only just over two years old. The drum became very stiff to turn, and makes a loud metallic scraping noise when you try to do so by hand.I have watched various videos on this kind of problem and it seems that, in order of probability, it could be:
(a) a foreign object physically jamming the drum;
(b) a drum bearing fault; or even
(c) a damaged spider that holds the drum bearing (I only mention this because I was told by an engineer that I had this problem before on a much older example of a similar model).Would I be able to tell which is the cause by removing the back? In that case, as it’s a fitted (integrated) type and I haven’t had it out yet, what type of heads do the securing screws have – Philips, Pozi, or anything uncommon?
With that removed, presumably the spider can be clearly seen and inspected for a fracture. I thought I might be able to check for that by trying to lift inside the drum at different positions, but there doesn’t seem to be any slack here. Any tips how to check whether it’s down to a foreign object jam or the drum bearing? Surely a failed bearing wouldn’t result in a scraping metal sound from the drum? Can anyone point me to an exploded diagram, perhaps?
Any advice from someone who’s had a similar problem would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,

Moderatoryou cant check the spider as its internal
remove machine and remove belt. I would then remove the heater and the lower hose to see if you can see anything thats causlng the problem
it does sound like a drum failure. if yes you can either scrap it or claim on the 5 year part warranty (you have to pay for labour to get it )

ModeratorThat model number looks like an older machine than two years old tbh. What is the full serial number and commercial code from inside the door?

ParticipantMany thanks, Dave and Iadom.
Sound advice, I’m sure, and thanks for explaining the internal layout.
I am sorry, iadiom, I didn’t have the appliance right here for the details you ask, and was quoting from memory. I have at least found the original receipt; the model number is correct but I was wrong about the purchase date, 25 March 2017. Hopefully it was at least a current model then, and not already discontinued.
I’ve been on to Indesit and they have several optional plans with and without extended warranty to consider. At least their call-out is more reasonable than an independent repairer I’ve used. Yes, I think that’s the way forward.
Thanks again,
Alec.
