ParticipantI suspect (not that I am a genius or anything) that the bearing(s) on my Indesit WM12X are shot. The machine is very noisy when spinning. Normal agitation does not produce excessive noise. Are the bearings on this machine replaceable and, if so, what would be a resonable price all in?
Thanks in anticipation.
Matt.

Yes the bearings on your machine are replaceable, but before you do this a quick test is to remove the drive belt, replace the back & set the machine to spin. If you still have the noise then the motor is the problem,
if the noise has gone then the drum bearings etc are suspect. As for price: That really depends on the Engineer, you are probably looking at anywhere between £60-90 including parts & labour..
You didn’t actually say what type of noise it is your getting.
PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT BEFORE OPENING THE MACHINE.

Thanks.
I don’t know how to describe the noise really- I suppose it sounds how I imagine it would if I could hold a wallpaper joint roller against the empty drum when it was spinning.

Try what I suggested above, also when the belt is off try spinning the drum by hand. You may well hear it then without the noise of the motor.
A long shot question but does your missus make sure everything is taken out of pockets before putting stuff in to wash? If the bearing is well worn you can often feel movement when you apply upwards pressure to the drum from the front. If you don’t feel confident in trying the repair yourself (they can be an absolute pain to do & quite messy) why not checkout the repairs@ link for an engineer local to you or if you are doing it yourself see shop@ where the bearings are available at a good price.
Hope that helps: Andy 8)

Thanks for the help Andy.
I think it is the bearing from the last part of your reply. When putting upward pressure on the front rim of the basket it does move (and make a definite knock as the play in the bearing is taken up).
SWMBO doesn’t particularly check pockets but she IS very prone to overloading the drum I think.

Mine does that too, but will never admit it 😆 As you said certainly looks like the bearing is shot, good luck with the repair.
