ParticipantHi there,
I have an Indesit XWA 81252XWUK, it had been making a racket for little while so I figured the bearings were going, when looking into replacing them I found out they are not replaceable due to it being a sealed tub . The machine was still working but would stop mid wash with all the lights flashing and needed to be switched off before it would start again. Eventually I found a replacement drum but now the machine does not power on at all. So far I’ve checked the socket / plug / fuse & all are ok. ( quick point I have over-looked, when going in to replace the tub I found that the faulty bearings had deposited a ring of rust around the inside on the machine across all the sides and the PCB case. I have cleaned it all but thought I should mention it.)
As I have already spent money on a replacement drum I don’t want to send this to the skip just yet, but am wondering whats causing the power issue. Any advice is well appreciated.June 4, 2022 at 11:27 am #482570electrofix
Moderatorthat ring of rust was a mixture of water and rust coming out of the bearing as you contiued to use them after failure
2 things are possible
1 you have a wiring error as you replaced the tub. check the ribbon cable from the control panel to the main board is connected properly
2 you have blown the main board by getting it wet

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for the comments. I checked the ribbons and they seemed fine, also it had stopped powering on before I replaced the tub, but the main board still has rust residue over it. I’m thinking Is there any way to identify what part has gone and get a replacement part or complete board. What are your thoughts on used eBay replacement parts?
thanks for the help.

Moderatorbad news complete board comes blank and has to be programmed
thats either a manufacturer job or an engineer who has bought the programming gear
as for the part thats gone, its a complex board so really depends on where the water has got
scrapped a machine the othere day for same reason. Her board was still working but had been used till drum had collapsed spraying water everywhere. told customer due to the water the board may be comprimised and so was not worth repairing
how old is this machine ?

ParticipantHi Dave,
I think this machine is about 4 years old, took the board out this morning to get a better look at it lost of rust residue on the board, cleaned it off and gave it another try but no luck. Two relays on the board looked a bit darkened not sure what that means.
All the best Sean

Moderatorcrazy thing about this is if you registered it then its covered by a 5 year part warranty
all you pay is labour and they will have changed the tub and anything else
the lower board generates a 5 v power supply to the top board to detect the power button. when pressed it turns on the min power supply
be careful as the power caps stay charged with 300 Vdc for a while after switch off

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for your earlier responses, yep we checked to see if it was registered and conveniently our details were not found. I can’t swear we did or didn’t either way, so there you go. I have sourced a replacement board ( used ) which powers the machine on but does none of the programmes. It will fill and empty that’s about it. I guess my query is will a used PCB need reprogramming like a new one would or is it possible to interchange PCBs between machines?
thanks in advance.June 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm #482576electrofix
Moderatoryou can have different software between machines of same model
these days there can be 20 machines with the same model and its the commercial code that alters. you prob got a board from wrong commercial code

ParticipantHi Dave ,
Thanks for pointing that out, I spoke to Indesit spares on the phone who were prepared to sell me a new PCB, smart card reader and card for £375. Way outta my budget, but it got me thinking can I reprogram the PCB I have already? If they will sell the card with my correct program on it and I had a card reader. There’s a fella near me that says he can do it but I’d want to be sure it can be done first.
Cheers.June 20, 2022 at 7:30 pm #482578electrofix

ParticipantHi Dave,
That’s an approach I hadn’t thought of repairing the PCB. I will get in touch with these folks and see if they can help and it’s a more cost effective option with their guarantee, great find that much appreciated.
