My ancient De Dietrich induction hob has finally bitten the dust. While the two right-hand side units work perfectly, the two left hand ones turn off after a few minutes use and then can’t be used until the mains power is disconnected and it is rebooted. Seems that spare parts are not available, so i think it is time to replace it
It was quite pricey when I bought it, but it has given nearly 20 years of service, so I can’t really complain 🙂

As a 65cm wide model, it seems there aren’t many options for replacements of the same width, so choice is limited. Looking around, the only manufacturers doing that size are De Dietrich, Whirlpool and Hotpoint. Given the numerous take-overs, rebrands and badge engineering I’m not sure whether any of these brands has an advantage in terms of quality and reliability.
Any advice (or alternatives) gratefully received.

I researched these thoroughly last year as we totally rebuilt our kitchen and dining area.

In the end after much conversation about brands, service arrangements, spare parts, budget and of course flexibility in use we went for a Whirlpool 90cm induction. We have now been using it for just over six months. The only real drawback is with induction is if you cook your own stir fry’s you cannot get the wok really hot like you can on gas.

Overall I would give 8 out of ten.

The other brands we considered was Bosch and Zanussi.

Bear in mind that most induction hobs are 7.5kw and up so you will need a 32A minimum supply.
