Induction hob with single oven?

I’m a little confused regarding selecting new appliances for my new kitchen and was directed to this site. The kitchen will be installed in 6 weeks or so and the suppliers originally spec’d Hotpoint appliances. I figured I could get a better deal and better appliances online. I have a Bosch fridge which I’ve had for years so figured I would start there. I see AEG/Bosch and Neff are considered to be one and the same.

I quite fancy an induction hob and have found a De Dietrich DTI714V (with free pan set) for significantly lower than Neff and Bosch.

Are De Dietrich a viable alternative to AEG/Bosch/Neff?

Can you have an induction hob above a single oven? I will be going for the same manufacturer for both. Its just that I have read that induction hobs require a fair bit of space underneath for cooling and fitting above an oven is a no go. Please can someone confirm if this is indeed true or if it only applies to double ovens?

I also like the look of John Lewis applicances (Electrolux/Zanussi, right?). Are they any good? Their 3 year guarantee is an obvious plus but how likely am I to need it and if I do, is their support any good?

While I’m at it, why are built in fridges so more expensive than their freestanding counterparts and will I loose a lot of capacity? I’m looking at an undercounter fridge with icebox although as I’ve already said I’m more than happy with my Bosch freestanding fridge but getting it all built in and hidden behind some gloss kitchen units would be nice!

I suggest if you get an induction hob you take out an extended warranty. If it goes wrong it will probably be very expensive to repair.

While you will probably get a better price online you will not get the advice, service or aftercare that you would from an independant retailer IMO. Bosch and Neff are indeed from the same stable, AEG are from the Electrolux group, I prefer the Neff products for better value and spec compared to the other two 😉 .

Personally I would rather have the Neff.

You can install an induction hob over a single oven, just make sure there is sufficient ventilation at the rear of the carcass for good airflow to the fans on the hob.

The John Lewis products are good value for money especially with the three year warranty. Afterall no one is going to give that sort of warranty if the products are unreliable.

I often think that the manufacturers adopt the attitude that if you want the built in look then you have to pay for it 😕

Thanks but the trouble was the guy that did my kitchen design etc. and spec’d Hotpoint appeared to know even less than I do. I nearly went with the original choices but when I suggested Neff, Bosch etc. I was told it would increase the costs. I said fair enough but when I compared the cost of the shop to the online price the difference was too significant. I’m all for supporting local suppliers but for some of the appliances and taps etc. they’re as good if not cheaper than online. I can’t see how I will get any better service as I will have to call out an engineer if something goes wrong with a built in appliance so all I’m doing is cutting out the middle man by calling direct, unless I’ve got that wrong.

Unfortunately I’m not that clued up on the specs of the appliances, hence why I’ve came online for advice. As long as the oven has some sort of self-cleaning coating and is mid-priced and looks quite swish, I’ll be happy.

I take it you’re saying that Neff are significantly better than De Dietrich and I should stick with them even for the induction hob? Its just that the increase in price is hundreds rather than £50 or so.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I’ll maybe have a word with my kitchen fitter about it to make sure that there will be sufficient space.

Fair point but they seem to be charging more for less if you catch my drift. I’m just wondering if I can afford to lose any storage capacity if I go with an integrated fridge as the kitchen is very small and there is no room for a separate freezer.

Because lower volumes of integrated are produced which means that they will cost more simply due to the economies of scale. Plus they have a few extra bits and bobs, like door fixing kits etc. which bumps the price up as well.

Cheap integrated appliances are rubbish, just total garbage and not worth even considering buying these days so please don’t be tempted by what seem to be “bargains” as they almost always are not. Many brands have sprung up selling, often, Chinese produced machines in the lower price ranges and they are truly woeful things. Some are lucky to last 18 months before people scrap them.

If you want “good” and integrated then be prepared to pay, a lot.

I won’t be buying cheap integrated appliances, as I said I’m looking for decent stuff with a proper guarantee of at least 2 years. I had a cheap fridge years ago which seemed to last one day past its 12 month warranty so bought Bosch and (fingers crossed) it hasn’t missed a beat. I will be fitting either a Neff or Bosch integrated fridge but the oven and hob is still to be decided. I’ve pretty much settled on either Bosch or Neff (or maybe JL) so it will come down to looks now. De Dietrich is still in the frame but I’ve never heard of them and don’t know what support is like if anything goes wrong….

I went with Bosch for the lot but unfortunately after 10 days, the hob has broken down. 🙁 5 days for call out too. Disappointed to say the least.

It’s an induction hob, the model is PIE640E01E. It was working fine but now when I try to turn on one of the zones, it just blinks ‘0’ at me, followed by E. It doesn’t matter which zone I try or which pan (all induction compatible). The manual says that the glass could be dirty but it’s spotless!
