ParticipantHi
I’m hoping someone could help me with this problem please.I’ve an 8 year old Zanussi dishwasher, I’ve been trying to discover whats wrong with it by reading these forums and using a dishwasher repair book from the library.
Recently its been not cleaning well, so first I washed the filters thoroughly. But it still seemed like not enough water was getting in because the tablet was not dissolving then I realised the top and bottom water sprayers aren’t moving. I’ve checked them for blockages. The last few times it hasn’t been filling with water at all.
I’ve pulled it out and checked the inlet hose- this is not blocked or kinked. I’ve also cleaned the inlet hose filter, although it appeared clean and clear to start with.
I’ve noticed there is a reservoir of water in the bottom of the dishwasher so checked the impeller, this seems to be moving fine. I’ve also taken off the outlet hose and checked this with tap water- this seems clear. (At least some water is draining away down the outside drain. )
The visible water is below the big flat filter at the bottom of the washer, its whitish in colour. Is this normal, or should a dishwasher empty completely?
I’ve also tilted the machine and seen a tank containing brown water, I can’t work out what this tank is for, and again wondered if this should look like it does? Theres (hopefully) a picture below.

Any help is greatly appreciated in diagnosing whats wrong with this, could a drainage problem be related to an inlet problem? I’ve gone as far as I can by researching and don’t know what else to do.
I’m trying not to call in an engineer because we’re thinking of getting a second hand integrated one and had hoped to sell this if it works. Thank you in advance

This would be a relatively simple fault for an experienced engineer to fix. Check out repairs@ on the LHS of the page.

It most likely is a fault with the water inlet system (IWMS) and will involve some expense and experience to go there. Advise needs to be sought through a local agent if you click on this link: Repairs@

HI Martin and Simon
Thank you for your replies. It may not be worth getting an engineer in then. Thank you for saving me the call out fee.
Martin – Could the water inlet system fault be causing this drainage problem, if it is a problem, or is this a seconfd fault?
Could you tell me for curiosity’s sake, what this brown water is from, and if it should be there?
Thank you again
