ParticipantI have a beko tff673apw freezer. Been using it fine for a couple of months now.
This morning, my wife got distracted by the kids and closed the freezer door without closing the parcel shelf lid.
This is the result 🙁

I did a forum search for freezer cracks but could only find advice on fridge cracks which was to seal it as soon as possible to avoid moisture getting inside. Does the same advice apply here? I have some white insulating tape handy. Would this do the job good enough?
Not happy with this design of parcel shelf lid. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve closed the freezer door a few times while a drawer is still open but with no ill effect. With these lid designs, an accident like this can easily happen. I’m going to contact beko to see if the door can be replaced or fixed under warranty. How do you rate my chances?
Thanks.

Yes, it will need to be sealed and insulating tape won’t cut it. You’d be better to use the likes of silicone sealant, it might not work but that’s the best bet IMO.
I wouldn’t fancy your chances with Beko or any other manufacturer as they’d most likely simply class that as accidental damage and tell you to claim your home insurance.
And, at the end of the day, you can only design so much to accommodate for accidental or improper use. We get the freezer flaps smashed due to people not defrosting the freezer and closing the door with them open as well but there’s only so much you can actually do to prevent things like that, after a point it’s completely down to the user.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have some sealant that I used recently for the kitchen. I can try that. The freezer is chock full right now. Is there any chance I can attempt the repair without emptying it. I know the sealant gives off a strong smell while drying so i’d rather not close the door but it’s only going to be a small amount. Actually, will it even dry in freezing conditions?
After I applying the sealant, if it doesn’t work, what problem am I likely to notice?
I can claim through insurance if necessary. Any idea how much it would be for a replacement door or repair?
Thanks again. Really appreciate the help.

Should be okay to try it, even with food in there. Put it this way, I’d chance it without thinking too much.
If you get condensation on the outer door or ice build up around where the cut is, you have a problem. If you get neither, don’t worry about it.
Doors are often in the £40-£100 range so not too bad.

Thanks. I applied the sealant. Hopefully that will make it airtight again. Will keep an eye on it. Cheers.
