Hi i have a whirlpool american fridge freezer. the solenoid failed and decided to buy the generic input and 2 out puts from your site. obviously as the commentary suggested there is a bit of fiddling required.

    there are 3 differences
one side has a diffferent electrical spade to error proof assembly…i’m sure i can change to make do

the inlet diameter on the origonal pipe to the fridge is about 12 mm…expect i can buy fittings to step it up or buy a new water inlet pipe..do you sell?

but the water supply pipes to the ice maker &water were designed to fit into the origonal solenoid and then hand tightened with a nut..are the fins inside the ‘generic’ output sides adequate to hold the pipe…if not how do i step it up to an appropriate diameter to slide over the outside of the pipes

    thanks in advance

Forget the ‘generic’ solenoid valve and fit the correct replacement instead? 💡

    Hi,

The pipes are usually an imperial US size which won’t correspond to metric European sizes. They’re all that size because of the water filters, the external ones, or we’d end up with both imperial and metric sizes on those as well and, that would cause chaos.

If memory serves it’s 1/4″ pipe for the water distribution system.

And, since I’ve tried this in a pinch before, I can tell you that I have never managed to find a metric equivalent that worked and didn’t leak.

    K.
