insulation test

I use a pat tester on the washers i recon.Usally i get a pass and a reading of 20m.If lower and i unplug motor it will go back to 20m if motor was causing lower reading.A new armature will then read 20m.
My question is a motor will pass at 4m but how long will it last if most i test are 20m including new ones

How long is a piece of string?…there are so many variables….how many washes a week, load size, environment, how often filters are cleaned, choice of wash program etc etc 😉

I find low readings due to carbon dust around the brush holders.

The thing to bear in mind especially with motor insulation and machines these days with electronic controls. Is that any high insulation reading (5 to 10 meg for example) can see the circuit board go up in smoke. 🙁

So if you are reconning machines and putting them out with any sort of guarantee, I would suggest failing any motor with an insulation less than 20 meg. And take the motor apart and clean it! 😉

Any less than 20m and i replace armature.I have tried cleaning up but never found any change.Any tips? . What i was wanting to know is was i throwing away good armatures.If it was a repair then no problem but on recons the cost is important.
