Integrated washer APM 8521 won’t spin

This seems to be an intermittent fault. Sometimes the washer spins, sometimes it doesn’t. This is mostly on the fast spin cycle. Checked the filter and that’s not blocked. Rebalanced the load but that doesn’t cure it. Grateful for any help. Thanks

Hi David,

Does the machine empty the water within a minute and a half and
Does the empty hose from your machine connect to the u bend of the sink, by any chance ?
If it does it might be worth checking that there are no blockages at the point where the waste pipe connects to your plumbing.

If all seems ok there, then the next thing to check is if it is a carbon brush type motor and if so are the brushes worn.

Thanks for your reply. No, it doesn’t connect to the u bend and does empty quickly enough.

How do I find out about the motor and brushes? You’ve lost me there!

There are no brushes on this machine 😉

Possibly the module which is the most common complaint with these but as they are about £50 it may be worthwhile asking an engineer to attend and diagnose for you.

Have a look in repairs@ for one 😀

It’s playing up again…had an engineer look at it but on the day he came it wouldn’t replicate the fault. However, it now spins OK, but sticks soon after the programme starts, but carries on through the cycle if I move the controller on a little. However, it is not heating the water…help (again)

The heater has failed I would think.

Ask the engineer to come and check for you, pretty straightforward repair really and won’t cost a bomb 🙂

The machine may have a sludged up water level control system. Therefore when it is empty of water the machine thinks it may have water in it and will not spin. Similarly it can stick so it thinks it has water in it and does not fill when the program is started. The heater then comes on and blows, like a kettle with no water in it. Regular boil washes may prevent this sludge buildup from happening again but the fault needs to be cured before the heater is replaced.
