    Hi all

Need some advice please, I am about to buy a new integrated machine to replace my old integrated machine which is ancient around 12+ years old I think (it was here when I started renting the flat a year ago and so I’m not sure how old it is exactly) my question is, how easy is it to fit an integrated machine? Is it the same installation as a freestanding machine with the difference only being you have to fix the door onto an integrated one or is there something different with the connecting of the pipes etc?

I ask because I cannot afford to pay £85 installation, as it is I’ve had to borrow £300 for the machine and so I am going to ask a friend if they can install it for me and I need to know if its easy or not for them to do it, as I don’t want anything going wrong or being messed up especially as this is a rented flat and I don’t want any damage caused.

I also read that old machines usually have a hot fill also and the new modern machines are cold fill, if when I remove the old machine I find it is a hot fill, will it still have a cold fill to fit the new machine to? Or will this cause big problems. Sorry I know absolutely nothing about these kind of things.

    Thanks

£300 for a new integrated machine, what have you bought?

Most built in machines will fit in place of an existing one but not always.

It would be wise to measure the old and new machines to be sure.

You should cap off the hot feed with a proper blanking cap and connect it to the cold feed only.

One big caution if you are using a ‘friend’, he/she will have no public liability insurance which a bona fide appliance engineer or plumber would have. If it does go wrong you could finish up with an expense far greater than the £85 you are saving. :rolls:

PS. if it is rented property why isn’t the landlord replacing the washer for you, or is it unfurnished?

    Its this one http://ao.com/product/WMI71641-Beko-Was … 21211.aspx

I have measured already and it should fit.

Its unfurnished although when I moved in it came with the cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge, the dishwasher never worked since we moved in so the landlord removed it and left us with an empty space behind a cupboard door (he wouldn’t even put a cupboard base in it for us to use) but in my contract it states the landlord isn’t obligated to replace any white goods and so its up to me to replace the washing machine.

I’m worried now as I don’t want anything to go wrong but I don’t have £85 at all and there is no one to lend me it. Will it be easy for my friend to cap the hot water pipe or not?

    Thanks

You should be able to buy something from B&Q or similar to cap the hot pipe.

Ok that’s great thank you very much for your help 🙂 wish things were simpler lol, I found installation for a normal machine costs £20 yet integrated is £85, surely the only difference is with an integrated you have to fix the door onto it? I’d rather fix the door on myself and save my self some money if that is the case haha.

Not just as simple as that, the new machine has to have the feet adjusted to sit in exactly the correct position for one thing, not critical on a freestanding machine.

Oh dear I really am stuck then. Would it be a plumber or a washing machine person I need to install it?

TBH I have no idea of your friends competence. As for installation , a domestic appliance engineer every time. Plumbers and kitchen fitters know that they won’t be the ones going back to repair it in the future. 😉

Have you checked our find an engineer link. £85.00 is a bit high for a swap over as opposed to a first time install.

I haven’t tried the link but I will give it a go in a second.

I honestly don’t think my friend could do it and so I do want a professional.

It was Curry’s I was going to order it from and they charge £85 to disconnect and remove the old integrated machine and replace with a new one.

I’m hoping if I look around maybe I can find an independent domestic appliance engineer to take it then, although they wouldn’t take my old machine away would they? Where as Curry’s would lol.
