Integrated Washing Machine or Washer Dryer

Hi,

I’m looking for a new integrated washing machine or washer dryer. After a bit of searching, it seems I have the following choices:

‘Entry Level’ = around £500
Siemens WXLI1240GB
Neff W5320
Bosch WFLi2440

“Flagship” = aroung £750
Siemens WXLI4240GB
Neff W5240
Bosch WFX i2840

“Washer Drier” = around £800
Siemens WD1440
Neff V5340
Bosch WVTi2840

First I need to decide which category to go for. I don’t have space for a separate drier, so one would be nice. Are the good brands washer dryers reliable? Or are they still the proverbial time bomb?

As far as I can see, there is not a lot of difference in the entry and flagship washing machines, other than a small LCD display. Is there more to it than that? Where is my extra money being spent? I appreciate that there’s a few hundred more rpm on the spin, but that’s fairly academic isn’t it?

I’m also wondering if any is particularly quiet? My kitchen / living room is open plan, so noise is really important to me.

Are there any other models I should consider?

Is there a clear winner among these?

i hear those nice men at hoover have built in washing machine hwb 280 for about £500 and built in washer dryer hdb 284 for about £510.

this in no way constitutes a recommendation on my part just a piece of information for you.

i am sure there will be many who knock hoover but i think you will be able to make your own mind up.

but an old hoover agent might sing there praises 5 years parts guarantee etc. but i wont bother you can find out about that yourself.

i would put them somewhere between entry level and flagship.

Within each group, these are all the same machines with different names on them.
The washer drier is produced by SMEG in Italy. Only go for the washer drier if you really need one.

To mirror what Mark said, the washer dryer avoid if you possibly can, they ain’t good and we would discourage them as they’re generally a pig-in-a-poke.

Smeg is a reasonable option, the machines aren’t bad at all these days, the new generation seem fairly decent.

Siemens is also a reasonable choice, whether it’s worth paying the extra for the “flagship” or not is debatable unless it is actually a German one.

Really? That would explain the similar features / pricing!

Is that the same as the actual smeg washer dryer too? Isn’t that the one with the 1600 spin nad vibration issues?

It is the same machine. We dont get so many vibration issues with them now though and i am sure a big respected name such as Siemens wouldnt put their name on it if there were any major issues though. it does come with a stainless steel tub and cast bearing assembly though while the other models you have listed are plastic tubs as will be the Hoover/Candy model that someone else mentioned.

Just to add, whatever you go for ensure it is properly installed. Make sure your kitchen flooring extends right under the machine and it is not propped up on odd bits of wood. keep the appliance feet as short as possible. These are heavy appliances and need a good stable surface and will need to be removed at some point in their life so make sure that can be done with minimum fuss.
