    Hello,

I’ve got a Hotpoint WDF740 washer dryer. It’s around 2.5 years old now.

The washer works fine and runs any cycle faultlessly, never has any issue locking. However at the end of the cycle, I’m getting an intermittent unlocking fault.

The machine finishes and beeps, then after 2 minutes the door lock should release but it sometimes doesn’t. If I get to the machine in time and give the casing a tap next to the door lock, it releases and the door can be opened as usual. If it is left for 5 minutes or more, the machine flashes all orange lights, shows F-06 fault code and the drain pump runs continuously for several minutes. After this sometimes the lock releases, but if not a tap on the casing releases the lock as before. If it is just left, the flashing and pump starts again.

I checked wiring and plugs and could see no issues visually. I also replaced the door interlock – but it turns out there are more than one for this model and I got the wrong one. The new lock got permanently stuck closed and had to be manually released from inside – fail on my part there! Mine is DL-LC2, the replacement was DL-S2.

So my question is, does this sound like a simple door interlock fault or something else? If it’s most likely just the lock, can anyone link me to one that will definitely be correct?

    Thanks

10 different versions of this machine, two different interlocks some interchangeable some not. Fitting the wrong one can sometimes blow the main module. 🙁

Need full serial number and commercial code from the sticker inside the door to ID correct part.

DL whatever suggests you used a pattern spare.

    Thanks for the reply.

10 different models under one name definitely complicates things! I have used the machine with the original lock today do not blown anything fortunately.

The replacement was a genuine Bitron and looked the same, just that the grey plastic carrier has a tab for an emergency door release that my original doesn’t have. I thought it may have been an updated part. It was only when I looked again that I noticed the different code on the main body of the lock.

I haven’t been able to find one the same as mine online at all, but plenty of the other one.

The numbers inside the door recess are –

    WDF740G(UK).C
    S/N 501303427 80646490095

    Thanks

Two different door interlocks for that model, yours should be a C00297327.

Check the plug connections very carefully, very cheap and flimsy and very prone to overheating and burning out.

I’ve checked all wiring and plugs and could see no problems. The fault has also not occurred at all this week with the old lock which is very odd! I received another interlock yesterday that I ordered last weekend.

I ordered a C00297327 as you suggested but received a C00306612 and it looks very different to my original (original is almost square, this is long and thin). I have been told the one I ordered is obsolete and has been superceeded by the other one.

Could I ask for the other possible part number that matches with my machine to check if that one looks correct? I struggled to find a picture of the other one so ordered it just on the number alone.

    Thanks

There isn’t ‘another’ type of doorlock to fit your machine. You misunderstood me when I said two different door locks. I was referring to the basic WDF740 model range as a whole, with the particulars you gave that is the only one for your machine.

Either part number you have just given entered into the manufacturers parts software shows a picture of the same, long thin interlock. This is not a new type but is basically the same interlock that has been used on Hotpoint machines for almost 15 years now, albeit with different manufacturers. It has been used to replace the original type used on your machine and will work, although a little differently.

The long thin interlock is a ‘bimetal’ type with a delay of a minute or so before opening, the earlier, square one is a solenoid operated door lock that clicks loudly when locking or unlocking and allows the door to be opened as soon as the drum stops revolving.
Either will work on your machine but if you get the plug the wrong way round it can damage the pcb.

Fantastic, thanks very much for clarifying that.

I’ll fit the replacement and hopefully that will cure the issue.

    Thanks again. 🙂
