ParticipantHi there – on occasion our fairly new Electrolux dishwasher does not clean properly. it’s strange as it happens about 1 in every 3 times. The contents of the dishwasher (i.e. our dishes) are largely free of much of the dirt, but very often there are streaks of fine dirt particles covering either the outside or the inside of glasses, pans etc. We don’t know what could be causing this – especially as it is an intermittent problem. As far as we know the dishwasher is draining properly (there’s no water left in the bottom), I try to clean the filters and keep it supplied with salt and rinse aid.
PLEASE HELP!!

Yes, I suppose it is – that’s probably a good description. I could post photographs the next time it happens or is that enough?
Also – there is often a constant knocking sound while the dishwasher is running. knock, knock, knock, knock. It’s not that quiet and it’s not that loud – is this normal or a sign there is something wrong? I can’t think what the arms could be hitting – everything seems to have clearance?

Okay, that being the case it’s re-deposited food particles. 😉
Generally it happens when the machine is overloaded or something blocks a spray arm etc. that stops the spray from reaching the dishes properly. This is why it’s most often seen on the inside of glasses and cups as the water doesn’t get there easily if blocked.
That also explains why it is intermittant. So you need to check…
* Spray arms clear and revolving freely
* Filter/s clean and clear
* Load pattern, make sure you load in accordance with the user guide
* Overly dirty dishes are not being put in
* USE A DECENT DETERGENT! 😉
* You may need rinse aid if you’re using powderThere’s probably more, but it’s Saturday afternoon and it’s too hot to think here. 😉
