ParticipantThis last 3 years has been a real eye-opener for me as to the ‘human element’ side of our trade seems to ‘expose’ so to speak. They have always been out there somewhere I guess, but the Internet has brought them well and truly to the surface on no uncertain terms. For example: Our dear friend in Norway, Mr Everett Yurtesen. How he battled to resurrect his aged Candy machine, his persistent questioning of all the guys here on UKW and his eventual (apparently?) triumph against seemily impossible odds in order to get his machine working again.
He spent weeks (months even?) on his quest. He brought out the best (and worst) in us all during that time with is elaborate postings, photographs and experiences. He battled against opposing views and criticisms, sarcasm and humour to get what he wanted and all for the princely sum of practically nowt! 😈
He was (so far at least?) the most shining example of ‘Internet Generated Nerds’ (IGN’s) that I have ever come across our trade in whitegoods could ever possibly produce. Or is he? Has he a rival? Will his talents be surpassed by other IGN’s?
From what I have seen in recent weeks I’m sure his record will be broken soon enough. As I type there are at least 2 on the site right now trying to achieve the impossible at the same price only fresh air can compete with!
BUT whilst those out there are thankfully very remote (and Finland – lets face it – is very remote) Unfortunately not as remote as I at first thought? Sat here in my little tiny corner of the sunny south on my PC is no sanctuary for me it seems? Today I got a phone call from a guy, he rang me at 7:30 this morning in fact asking if I had a part for his ancient Hotpoint 18371 washing machine? He wanted the door release lever and had seen my name come up regularly on UKW. Apparently he was a regular postee on UKW on various threads and figured because I had helped him out on numerous occasions (and sadly because he knew where I lived 🙁 ) I was his first choice for help in this instant. 😕
Brilliant! Why me? Please god save me?…anyway, I told him that I had the part and he could have it for just £1 (bargain indeed!), he asked when could he pick it up? I told him that anytime after 1 pm today and I will be back home, he said he would call by. :rolls:
B*gg*r me!!!…..I spotted a bloke on a 3 wheeled tricycle coming up the drive just after 2pm. Back doorbell rings and this scruffy git says he had called for the Hotpoint part. Dirty stinking pond life kind of guy, sweating like a pig in lycra cycling gear on my doorstep even!!!
Stepping back once I had handed over the part and copped the money I asked “where have you just cycled from by the way?” “I live in the village of Langney near Eastbourne in East Sussex” he replies!!!
“But that’s 80 odd miles away pal!”….”Well I got your name off the Internet, he replies, and you had the part so I got my bike out and came straight up, the weather was kind to be, just ideal for cycling in fact. My mother will be so pleased when I get back and fit this part. Can you tell me how to put it in by the way????”
I told him to ask the guys on UK Whitegoods when he gets back….. :rotl:
Bl**dy nutter….. 👿

If he could see this he’d be gutted. What’s wrong with sweaty pigs anyway?
